What is your greatest temptation:

In men:
Humility. Nothing is sexier than a guy who doesn’t really know how awesome he is.
In food: Sweets…in all forms and all kinds!
In clothes: I’m not very particular with fashion. I have practical taste, but I do seem to lean more towards anything bohemian and I love native fabric and exotic prints and embroidery.

What is your greatest weakness (example: buying shoes)?
Sweets! Especially pastries. I can probably be bribed with it. I just find it very hard to say no when it’s in front of me. Life’s too short to be denied such pleasure!

If you could have any kind of car, what would it be? A black hummer!

Your dream home – mountains or ocean? Ocean. I’m an Island girl. I love everything about it.

What inspired you to become a writer?

Life. My father was an amazing storyteller, and he had a unique view of the world. He taught me to look at the world from another perspective, and he encouraged a healthy imagination.

Do you have a daily writing routine? If so, please share.

Yes, I do. I set a target word count that I try to break everyday. Although there are days that can become more challenging than usual, like when errands start to pile up and other matters require my attention. I try to get some words in, or try to make up for it when I don’t.

What is your favorite book?

There is quite a lot. It’s hard to pick only one when there is so much variety in the world. So I’d rather say that I love the classics, like Black Beauty and The Little Princess. But I also enjoy contemporary and regency romance stories, and just about anything that is well told.

What is your favorite movie?

I loved Erin Brockovich. The story of her life was very inspiring and in many ways, I could relate to her.

Who is your favorite historical figure?

Jesus.  Regardless of what you believe, he DID exist. And he is my favorite historical figure, because all the stories told about him, and the messages conveyed in them can be life altering.

In your books, who is your favorite hero and please introduce him?

Kenjin Kiyohara is the hero in my book HANAMI. He is the sole heir to the Kiyohara Empire, Asia’s largest Oil and Steel Company. He is arrogant… but who can blame him when every woman in the world would kill to be the object of his affection? The problem is…nobody is good enough for Kenjin…until he met the mysterious Sakura.

Who is your favorite heroine and please introduce her?

The heroine of my debut romance novel is Sakura Shintani. She is next in line to succeed her grandfather, the leader to the most notorious crime family of Japan. She is dangerous, with a legendary temper…but now she has to complete a program in some fancy school upon the request of her grandfather while hiding her true identity. But having the face of an angel proves to make this quest quite a challenge.

What do you have out now? Excerpt, blurb, book trailers

You can view the book trailer of HANAMI in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhONdkI9y64

New releases anytime soon?

The Sequel to HANAMI will be released sometime in 2018. I also have another contemporary romance in the works schedule for late 2018.

Where can eager fans find you?

You can find me on my website www.vcbuckley.com. Subscribers to my newsletter are entered into a raffle draw ever quarter.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CANDOR, NOW FOR HANAMI!!

GENRE:   New Adult romantic suspense

BLURB:

 SAKURA SHINTANI is the Dragon Clan heir-Japan’s most notorious crime dynasty. But can she keep this fact a secret from the prying brats of Oniyuri Academy?
She tries to stay out of their radar while mastering her demons and keeping her murderous temper under control, but having the face of an angel only attracts everyone’s attention… including the arrogant heir to Asia’s most powerful tycoon, KENJIN KIYOHARA.

He senses the danger, but Sakura is too interesting to be left alone.

EXCERPT:

Jin rolled his eyes, settling his gaze back on the girl. He wasn’t surprised with their reaction.

The new girl was hot, but so what? It took more than a pretty face to get his attention. He wasn’t that easy to impress, and he was certain she’d be throwing herself at him anyway. Just like everybody else. He was sure this girl wasn’t any different from the love-crazed hyenas that stalked him.

Jin pushed back his shoulders, seeing her start towards him with her eyes still trailing on the ground.

Already? Jin thought, suppressing a laugh. He crossed his arms, waiting for her to get closer, and sure enough she stopped right in front of him. She was even prettier up close. Asian but with a hint of Caucasian mixed in.

“What?” he asked, smirking. He already knew what she might say: whether he was Kenjin Kiyohara, the sole heir to Kiyohara Industries? The questions were all the same. He thought she would have at least waited until class was over like the rest of them.

“Move your feet. You’re blocking my way,” the girl said in a sharp tone.  She shifted her gaze up at him like a threatening knife. Her topaz-colored eyes darkened, sending icy tremors down his back. He felt as if he’d been hit by a curse as his mind turned blank.

When she finally looked away, Jin was able to regain his senses. He tucked his legs out of her way, and she passed, leaving goosebumps in her wake. His eyes followed her, waiting to see if she’d look back, but she never did. Jin’s hands were trembling. His thoughts became jumbled while he struggled not to look anymore.

What was that? What just happened? This was a first for him. He couldn’t contain himself. His presence had no impact whatsoever. Instead she looked like she wanted to kill him!

Jin took a deep breath, replaying the moment in his head. Who was this girl? She sure got his attention, all right—and it left him in pieces. He fought the urge to look back again.

This girl…Jin thought. There was something about her. He couldn’t shake off the feeling. She seemed dangerous.

BLURB:

What if the one time you didn’t want love was when you truly needed it?

Forced to flee her abusive ex, alone with no support, Elle is determined to rebuild her life and protect her five-year-old son. Not one to take the easy road, she opens a bookshop café, but opening day almost ends in disaster. In the midst of this chaos, the last thing she needs is a man as charming as George Jones getting in her way.

George has always been a sucker for a damsel in distress, and Elle ticks all the boxes. But Elle’s not interested in being rescued by anyone, especially not him. She knows her taste in men can’t be trusted, but fighting George’s charisma is harder than she expected. And George, who is not one to ignore an itch, has found there’s something about Elle that’s got under his skin.

When Elle’s ex turns up to cause trouble, George must overcome his boyish flirtatiousness if he’s to convince Elle to trust herself and let him into her life. But can Elle put her past behind her before it overwhelms her present?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
This is their first kiss. They’ve just come from an altercation with Elle’s ex and she’s angry that George stepped in because it made matters worse. George is trying to explain why he did what he did.
MediaKit_BookCover_UnderTheCovers“I said we were friends, didn’t I? I wouldn’t let any of my friends – Piper, Imogen, Libby, Adrian, Chris – face what you’ve had to face alone. It’s not who I am.”
“But I asked you not to.”
He nodded. “I know and I’m sorry I made it worse. I couldn’t stand by and watch you face that bully by yourself. I care for you.” He brushed away the tear that had escaped her eye. “I should have trusted you had everything under control.”
Her anger deflated.
She squeezed her eyes shut. She didn’t want this, this kindness, this caring, these warm and contented feelings that were being stirred up inside her. She couldn’t trust those. She’d felt those with Dean and she’d been oh so wrong about them.
But, damn, she was tempted.
George stepped closer, gathering her into his arms, and she didn’t resist. How could she? She wanted to be able to lean on someone, even if only for a minute.
Giving in to the temptation, Elle wrapped her arms around his waist and felt him relax.
He was as uncertain as she was.
That made her smile.
George stroked her back, sending lovely, shimmery warmth everywhere. She gave herself a minute to enjoy it and then stepped back.
His eyes captured her; something in them said he would protect her, that he cared for her.
After five years of having no one she could turn to for help, the invitation was beyond enticing. She wanted someone she could rely on, someone she could talk her worries over with, someone to just be there.
But was she wanting too much?
George watched her, waiting. He was letting her make the choice. He was giving the power to her.
That was what made her decision for her.
She leaned forward and kissed him.
Angelica Douglas has no idea that she’s the Countess of Melrose. What she does know is that she needs to support her family as a card shark, while finding a way to seek revenge on the men who ruined her father and sent her family spiralling down into poverty.
Robert Campbell, Marquess of Argyll, heir to the Duke of Inverary, has no idea who Angelica truly is. He just wants to watch over her and make her his mistress.
Angelica thinks Robert is simply a dashing rogue who is far too dangerous for her peace of mind. Robert thinks Angelica is an angel except when she’s being a pain in the behind.
When Robert finds out that his own father may have been one of the men who ruined Angelica’s family, he vows to keep a careful eye on her. When Angelica finds out that Robert’s father may have been one of the men responsible, she vows to stay as far away from Robert as possible. But when danger threatens, both Robert and Angelica must face the truth and let fate take the upper hand.
Enjoy an excerpt:
“I knew someone would try to steal your money,” Robert said, helping her rise. He lifted the wreath of flowers off the ground and placed it on top of her blond head, adding, “You look like a flower fairy again.”
“What makes you think the assassin was aiming at me?” Angelica countered. “He didn’t stop to steal my money. Perhaps he’s one of your enemies.”
Robert snapped his brows together. She knew from the expression on his handsome face that he thought she made sense.
“I’m an excellent markswoman,” Angelica said, pulling her dagger from the sheath strapped to her leg. “If you hadn’t thrown yourself on top of me, I would have taken him down. Then we could have questioned him.”
Robert burst out laughing. “A knife wielding angel? Next time I’ll let you rescue me,” he said, helping her onto his horse.
“I should walk the rest of the way,” Angelica said when he mounted behind her. “Being attacked twice in one day is statistically impossible.”
“You are the sweetest gambler I’ve ever encountered,” Robert said. Then, “What’s your full name?”
“Angelica Douglas.” His body pressing intimately against hers made her feel weak. To mask her nervousness, she asked “What is your full name, sir?”
“Robert Roy.”
“Are you joking?” Angelica glanced over her shoulder at him. “Your name is really Rob Roy?”
Robert shrugged. “My father had a keen sense of humor.”
“I agree,” Angelica said with a smile, “but the joke is on you.”
Robert inhaled deeply of her scent, lavender and water lily. She reminded him of a spring day. “Your smile shames the envious sun, angel.”
“I love this moment in the year’s cycle,” Angelica told him. “Sunshine, flowers, and freedom fill the days.”
“Do I detect a philosophical gambler?” Robert asked, amusement tingeing his voice.
Angelica shrugged. “I am philosophical by choice and a gambler by necessity.”
A connoisseur of beautiful women, Robert enjoyed the feeling of the angel in his arms as they started down Hampstead Road. She exuded seductive innocence, an aphrodisiac to his senses.
I’m a dog person. Who lives with 10 cats. Get the picture?
My first brush with the romance genre happened in my high school junior year. I discovered Gone With the Wind and hid it behind my American history book to read during class. (The Civil War is American history.) The ambiguous ending left me dissatisfied, though. Rhett and Scarlet needed a happily-ever-after. Believing in happily-ever-afters positively screams romantic-at-heart.
On the other hand, I love murder and mayhem as much as happily-ever-after. My usual television fare is fiction and nonfiction crime shows, not love stories. Which accounts for the mysteries I sneaked into my historical romances. Now I’m trying my hand at writing a humorous mystery, sans historical and sans emphasis on the love interest. I even prepared for my mystery-in-progress by attending the local NRA’s Pistol School. Shooting pistols is great fun. I adore the .22 semiautomatics.
After graduating from high school without distinction, I earned both Bachelor and Master degrees at a state college. Again, without distinction. I held several part-time jobs during my college days: file clerk in an insurance company, long-distance telephone operator, kimono-wearing waitress in a Japanese restaurant.
And then I began my teaching career, eighteen years in the eighth grade and thirteen years at the high school. Weary with the same old routine, I decided I needed a creative outlet. So I decided to write a romance novel but only managed to talk about writing one. After five years of listening to me, a friend said to stop talking and start writing.
So I did.
I made every mistake known to man. Blunder would be a more appropriate word, but I did learn using the trial and error method. As well as studying the works of authors I admired.
After five years of writing for nothing but love, I sold my first novel. Since then, I’ve sold eighteen novels and won several awards— National Readers’ Choice Award New England Readers’ Choice Award, Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice and KISS Awards, B. Dalton and Bookrak Awards for best-selling author. My novels have been translated into fifteen languages and sold in twenty countries.
If I had my life over, would I become a writer? Nope. I would enjoy being a Victoria Secret model. Perhaps in my next incarnation I won’t be too old, too short, or too unphotogenic.
