BLURB:

1849 . . . Matilda Sheldon, the middle daughter of the sixth Earl of Bisset, has never been interested in the fashionable society events that so preoccupy her parents and siblings. Her loving, albeit, daft family cannot understand why. But Matilda has little use for silly rules and dramas. She would rather occupy her time with a worthwhile cause such as opening The Sheldon Home for Orphans, much to the chagrin of her mother and grandmother. They are quite certain a venture of this nature will discourage suitors. Matilda is quite certain that if suitors are discouraged it is because she is clever, plain, a bit clumsy, and inevitably compared to her beautiful sisters.

The Duke of Thornsby is in tight spot. After receiving the title on the death of his father, he discovers the inheritance is to be gifted elsewhere if he does not marry before his thirtieth birthday. Unfortunately, our man-about-town is embroiled in a scandal, not of his own making, and the marriage mamas won’t let any eligible misses anywhere near him. What’s a Duke to do? Get invited to a house party hosted by the notoriously absent-minded Earl of Bisset, who just happens to be Papa to some young ladies of marriageable age!

Thornsby finds himself fascinated, not with the two Sheldon debutantes actively seeking a husband, but rather with the ‘brown wren’ he first mistakes for a servant. Matilda is counting the hours until the house party ends when the necessity of conversing with the guests will be over, and ridiculously handsome men go far away. Can a worldly Duke convince a sensible girl to accept his court? Find out in Charming the Duke.

~~**~~

Excerpt:

Our hero can’t resist a kiss . . .

Cover_Charming the Duke (2)“Thornsby!” Matilda hissed. People from one end of the room to the other were staring. Oddly, the glimpse Matilda caught of her mother revealed a smile.

“What is wrong with you, Thornsby?” Matilda asked when he finally released her after pulling her into the first deserted room they came to.

“You said yourself that Altry has never asked you to dance. What do you imagine prompted him now?”

“Heavens, I don’t know. Why would I care? It was just a dance,” Matilda replied.

“Just a dance? That young pup was nearly drooling.”

“Drooling? Whatever are you talking about?” Matilda asked.

“Miss Sheldon! You are no fool. Don’t presume to tell me you don’t understand. Altry asked you to dance because of this damned outfit you’re wearing.” Thornsby shouted.

“You’re only angry you can’t compare me to a maid or a washwoman.”

Matilda supposed the Duke was right though. Altry would have never paid her court if she hadn’t been wearing this dress. It all supported her notion that the glasses, brown dresses, and scruffy boots separated the chaff from the wheat. Those that deemed her worthy enough to speak to when dressed that way, and those that chose this evening to address her. The Duke had apparently noticed her gown.

Thornsby stared at her as if in a trance. She wondered what was going through his mind. “Don’t make Altry to be any more the cad than you, Thornsby. You’ve never noticed me either. Unless to insult me.”

His eye twitched. “That is untrue.”

“Far from it,” Matilda said.

“Don’t presume to know what is in my mind,” Thornsby said and grabbed Matilda’s bare shoulders.

The moment was charged with sparks, shooting through the air, connecting him to her. Matilda felt, well, she didn’t know what she felt. Fluttery and female. Angry. Aware. The touch of his fingertips drifted down her arms leaving her hands numb. Her voice came out barely above a whisper.

“What is on your mind then?” she asked.

“I’m thinking of kissing you, Miss Sheldon.”

Matilda batted her lashes. “Is it the dress?”

Thornsby touched his lips to hers. A feather’s touch. He inched back to gaze over her face. “I don’t know. But I don’t think so.”

His breath was warm on her cheeks. She’d never been this close to a man before. She could see the lines around his mouth and the bristle of his beard. He touched his lips to hers again.

“What do you imagine it is?” Matilda whispered into his mouth.

Thornsby slipped his hand around her waist and pulled her close. He tilted her head up with his finger. “I haven’t a clue,” he said. Then he kissed her. Really kissed her.

Finding Her Dream …. Jennah Scott — Virtual Book Tour

Amazon, contemporary romance, falling in love, Goddess Fish Promotions, horses, Kentucky, Kindle, marriage, romance, romance novels, virtual book tour

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Jennah will be awarding a $10 Gift card (to the winner’s choice of e-book retailer) to a randomly drawn commenter via the Rafflecopter at the end of this post. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour. Remember, the more stops you visit, the more chances you earn to win.

It wasn’t until she watched her best friend find the man of her dreams that RayAnne Hill realized there was a part of her missing. She knows the empty space can only be filled by finding her own true love, complete with kids and the white picket fence. Fear of letting someone in stops her cold, and it’s much bigger than just finding Mr. Right.

James Shaw moved away from Kentucky and the family business to chase his own goals, settling in the small town of Kimmswick, Missouri. His business is succeeding, now he’s ready to complete his life with a wife and kids. One night, one look and he’s found her. RayAnne is everything he’s been searching for.

As hard as James has fallen for RayAnne, can he be enough to help her overcome her worst nightmare? Or will he decide he can’t wait forever, and walk away to find happiness?

Now enjoy an excerpt:

Well, wasn’t that just the crap on the cake. Selfish. Once again, Ray was thinking of herself before she found out the whole story. James wasn’t ditching her.

“You know, you could have called and rescheduled. I would have understood.” She wouldn’t have liked it, but she knew about having a business and needing to be there. It was the same way with her dad, and for a while, herself.

“I didn’t want to miss our date. You’re a beautiful woman, giving me a chance and I’m messing it all up with my mare. Besides, Doc told me if I didn’t get some food then I’d never make it through the night. I really don’t want to screw this up.”

“Hey. Don’t worry about it. I understand. We’ll enjoy whatever time we have.” Not that the hurt faded completely. There was still a pang in her chest knowing the date was a failure. “Do you want to order something and if necessary, I can bring it out to the ranch? You’ve got to eat.”

He ran his hand down her cheek. Ray leaned into his touch. This was what she wanted. She breathed a sigh of relief when the legs of the chair closest to her scraped against the floor as he pulled it out and then sat down. He was turned slightly toward the table, his shoulders turned to face her.

“You’re such a sweetheart. Thank you. I don’t know how long she’s going to be.” James leaned over, brushed his lips across hers.

BLURB:

The beautiful but lonely owner of a bath and body shop, Krista Winter is in need of legal counsel. Her past is about to catch up with her.  She was forced to flee from her life as a teacher in New Jersey after being shunned for being a witch.

Life is not the same for Jon Bartolo. He’s a dedicated lawyer, living in the town of Conway, New Hampshire. His days are spent helping his clients with their struggles and his nights are spent in agony, lost in a world between life and death.

His mother, who died three years ago, lurks in his house, suffering from a curse for eternity, without a resting place.

A smoldering fire between Jon and Krista ignites almost immediately, however, he’s sure his secret would frighten a woman away. An afternoon escape brings them closer, but doubts linger between the love-struck couple.

How will Jon’s  mother find eternal rest so he can move on with his life? Is he bound to a life of hell on earth?

Will Krista fit into his world when he learns about her past?  Could she be hiding a bigger secret? Is it possible for them to open their hearts to love? Could  a touch of Night Magic be just what this couple needs?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cover_NightMagic (2)EXCERPT:
Steadying herself, she stood back and stared into his eyes. As Jon moved in again and plunged his tongue deep into her mouth, he lightly brushed his hand across the back of her hair, and she surrendered to his touch. It was as if a long lost lover had reappeared and claimed her heart’s desire. There was no telling what might happen next. Her whole body relaxed as he nuzzled her ear, teasing her with playful nips at her neck. All rules had been broken, but it didn’t matter. His hard shaft rubbed up against her stomach, and she swayed back and forth, unable to break away from temptation. His breathing sped up and his strong arms were tight around her back. She quietly moaned, lost in another world. Every movement brought her one step closer. Am I that lonely? I’m about to have sex with a man I just met. As his hand trailed across her back, her body rocked with his.
Each touch was electrifying, as if he wanted to devour her, and she found herself in a trance-like state. Is this what I’ve been missing? Running her hand across his firm bicep, she felt woozy. The warmth of his body was raising her level of arousal. Here in the middle of his office, she experienced a passion like no other. Everything seemed right. Lust took control of her senses and she let herself go with it. With each kiss he cradled her in his arms, his embrace warm and protective like a warrior of love. How did this happen? Had she found the man she was destined for or was it all a dream?
Kathleen will be awarding a $25 Amazon GC, eBook copy of NIGHT MAGIC and a tote bag (US ONLY) to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour.  http://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/display/6a63be6/
Almost a Bride by Sarah Mayberry
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Sarah will be awarding a digital copy of Almost a Bride to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour. Remember, the more you comment, the better your chances to win.
Tara Buck has always been the good sister, level-headed by comparison to Scarlett, her flaky, impulsive twin. But when Tara learns her fiancé has been cheating on her with one of his school students, the orderly world she’s created for herself suddenly feels as if it’s falling apart. For years she chose the safe option, but from now on she’s going to live a little, stretch her wings…be a little daring. And if that means acting on the long-suppressed feelings she’s always had for Reid Dalton, then so be it!
Reid has wanted Tara from the moment he met her, but she’s always been out of bounds. Not only is she his patrol partner at the Bozeman PD, she’s also engaged. But then her relationship blows up, and Reid finds himself battling his own instinct to stake his claim with the finest, hottest woman he’s ever known.
Even if anything did happen between them, it would only ever be temporary – Reid’s a born wanderer, while Tara’s roots run deep in Marietta. So even if things are good between them, it seems their romance is destined to be short and sweet…
Tara’s twin sister, Scarlett, also has a Spring Brides story: look out for Second Chance Bride by Trish Morey. Details from montanabornbooks.com
Now enjoy an excerpt:
Reid Dalton pumped gas into his GMC pickup, one ear tuned to the conversation going on between his friends inside the truck. Grant was giving Brett a hard time for missing an easy layup during the basketball game they’d just finished, and Brett was serving it straight back at him with both barrels.
Reid grinned to himself, feeling pleasantly tired after an hour of charging up and down the court, trouncing the Bozeman Fire Department team. The informal competition between the police department and the firefighters had become a regular thing over the past few months. Reid wasn’t sure which part of their weekly matchups he enjoyed the most—the rapid-fire pace of the game itself, or the inevitable shit giving and taking that occurred afterward.
“You want to know my opinion?” he asked as the pump clicked off, signaling the tank was full.
“Not particularly,” Brett said, which earned him a guffaw from Grant.
“You both need to lift your games. Drink less beer, run a few more miles,” Reid said.
Grant made a rude noise, while Brett gave him a one-fingered salute. Reid was still laughing as he headed into the gas station to pay the cashier.
Then he saw the couple exiting the motel next door to the Gas-And-Go Mart and his step faltered.
The girl he didn’t recognize, but she was young and blonde and clinging to her man as though her very life depended on it. Reid watched as Simon Garfield said something before kissing her in a way that left no doubt whatsoever as to the nature of their relationship.
Damn.
Just… damn.
Tara would be devastated.
For a moment he was frozen as he absorbed all the implications of what he’d just witnessed. Tara had been planning the wedding for the past few months and as her patrol partner, there was precious little Reid wasn’t privy to. Like the fact that Tara and Simon planned on having the reception at Le Petit Chateau in Bozeman, and that Tara was limiting her attendants to just her twin, Scarlett, and that today she had an appointment at Marietta’s one and only bridal salon to pick out her wedding dress…
Belatedly he glanced back at the car, hoping the other guys hadn’t seen, but they were both frowning, staring out the windshield at the sordid little drama unfolding in the parking lot next door. There wasn’t a doubt in Reid’s mind that they recognized Tara’s fiancé. They’d all attended the engagement party Tara and Simon held back in February.
Reid mouthed a four-letter word.
What a nightmare.
Baby for Easter! by Noelle Adams
babies, contemporary romance, Easter, Goddess Fish Productions, inspirational romance, romance
SBB_ABabyForEaster_Banner (2)You must watch the video!  And read the blurb and excerpt.
BLURB:       Alice Grantham lost her fiancé and her job, so she’s had to come home to Willow Park to live with her parents. To recover some sense of independence and security, she’s cobbled together different part-time jobs, including one as assistant to the pastor of her hometown church. Nothing seems to be going right for her. Even Micah, the pastor’s brother and the first boy she ever loved, is standoffish with her now.
Micah has always been a prodigal son, but now he’s trying to put that lifestyle behind him. Then a five-month-old daughter he never knew existed is dropped on his doorstep, the result of one of his many one-night stands. He needs help from Alice to care for his daughter, but he can’t let himself hope for anything more from her than that. He can’t help but want it, though…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Now, however, Alice was regretting her random impulse to put on a skirt that morning, since she was on her knees in front of the Cover_A Baby for Easter (2)bookshelves, putting the last of the commentaries back in place.

At least no one was around to see her undignified position, with her skirt pushed up to her thighs to give herself freedom to move.

“Daniel,” a voice came from outside the office. “Daniel!”

She recognized the voice, but he was in the office before she could move or pull down her skirt. She froze as she looked over her shoulder, befuddled by Micah’s sudden appearance.

He seemed equally startled to discover her on the floor, after his eyes scanned the room for his absent brother. “Oh,” he said, standing in the doorway.

It took her a minute to pull herself together, but when she did she managed to smile. “He went to the hospital to see Mrs. Cooper.”

“Oh.” Micah was such a self-assured man that it was strange to see him so stumped.

Then there was a different sound in the office. It took Alice a few seconds to even identify it. It was so unexpected that she was sure it wasn’t right.

It sounded like a baby whimpering.

Finally, her eyes drifted down to something Micah was holding. A baby carrier. A baby carrier.

“Is that a baby?” she asked, her voice hoarse with surprise.

He looked down at the carrier as if he’d forgotten he held it. “Yeah.”

She scrambled to her feet, rather clumsily, and hurried over to look at the baby as he set the carrier on Daniel’s desk, right on top of the printed copy of sermon notes for Sunday.

She peered into the carrier and saw the baby—maybe four or five months old—wearing a pink sleeper. Her eyes were blue and grumpy, and her whimpers were quickly turning louder.

Instinctively, Alice reached out for the girl and pulled her up to rest against her shoulder, patting her back in a comforting manner.

Alice had always liked kids. She’d never had baby-fever, but she certainly knew what to do when one was starting to cry.

“What are you doing with her?” she asked Micah, who’d been staring at the baby with that same glazed look of bewilderment.

“I…I don’t know.”

“Well, whose is she?” Surely this baby hadn’t dropped from the sky into the back of Micah’s truck.

His features twisted slightly—maybe anxiety, maybe disbelief. “That’s the thing. I think…I think she’s mine.”

BLURB:

Scarlett Buck has always been flaky in comparison to her sensible twin sister Tara, so nobody is really surprised when Scarlett spends all her money on a one way ticket to Australia to be with the man she’s met on the Net. But she hasn’t reckoned on the guy already being married, or her mom getting sick, and now she needs money for a flight home to Marietta, MT—quick. Signing on with Bella’s Belles in Kalgoorlie isn’t be the proudest moment in her life but it will get her home fast. After all, it’s just sex.

Or is it?

Mitch Bannister’s ex is about to marry his best friend, and he could really do with a cold beer and a hot woman. But the cowgirl he takesCover_Second Chance Bride (2) a shine to at Bella’s is surprisingly skittish, and in the end he leaves without hooking up.

Later, when Mitch spies the cowgirl in the local pub begging for a job, he shrinks into the shadows–he’s not looking for complications, and something tells him that Scarlett Buck is a whole handful of them.  But soon it’s clear she’s not just trouble, she’s in trouble, and like it or not, he’s not about to turn his back on this stray from the States. Especially if she can do him a favor in return. After all, it’s just a helping hand.

Or is it?

EXCERPT:

They had Chinese food in a restaurant nearby, honey shrimp—except they were called prawns here—and crispy duck with fried rice washed down with an almost local Margaret River white wine. The food was small-town Chinese restaurant good, and Mitch talked about his fly-in fly-out job at the mines, about the fourteen day shifts filled with twelve hour work days and big meals in the mess and maybe a swim before bed and then getting up the next day to do it all over again. Scarlett listened and crunched shrimp tails between her teeth and sucked honey off her fingers and thought that maybe it wasn’t such a crazy idea that she’d come to Australia after all, or she would never have known about any of this kind of lifestyle.

Or more importantly, that otherwise she would never have met Mitch. Maybe she should send Travis a thank-you postcard from Broome? She was halfway tempted.

And Mitch watched a woman who could follow his every word and ask questions while eating with gusto and relish and who wasn’t afraid to get her fingers dirty in the process. And he liked it. A lot.

When she licked her fingers clean, he wished she’d offered them to him first.

And then he smacked his lustful thoughts down hard. He was trying to help her out. Offer her a solution to her problems, so that whatever was bothering her would disappear.

At least, that had been his intention.

Now that she was coming with him to Broome he wasn’t so sure of his motives. She was fun. A breath of fresh air into his highly regulated existence. A temporary cowgirl for a short-term problem.

And while sex wasn’t part of their deal, that didn’t mean he wouldn’t welcome it if it happened. He wasn’t looking for commitment but where was the risk? She was going home in a few days. And they were going to be sharing a villa after all. Sure, it was a big villa. Loads of space for two.

Loads and loads of space.

And one really big bed.

Filipowicz, Mary Marvella, paranormal, paranormal romance, romance, RONE awards, sci-fi, Toni V. Sweeney, vampire romance, vampires, Women's Fiction

There is a term in the movie industry called Baton Pass, which basically means using something in the ending of one scene in the next to tie them together. Here, we are, more or less, doing the same thing. We are passing the blog from writer to writer, introducing our fellow authors and telling a bit about ourselves.

FOR ANYONE READING TO THE END AND COMMENTING, I WILL CHOSE ONE TO WIN A DOWNLOAD OF SINNERS’ OPERA, MY RONE AWARD NOMINEE, IF YOU STATED YOU VOTED!  🙂

dscn1568_3291Mary Marvella passed the baton to me. I have known Mary for a LONG time. As newbies, we met at a writers’ conference in Hilton Head, SC, and have been friends since that momentous occasion.   Mary, I know you are reading this, so a private joke: The poet with a line that said, “piss holes in the snow”. AARGH.

Now, who is Mary Marvella?

Mary Marvella has been a story teller for as long as she can remember. She tutors students in language arts, writing, and reading – perfect since she taught language arts/English for 15 years. Mary made up stories as a child, she made up stories for her daughter, and now she’s sharing the stories of her heart. Join her for a taste of love, lust, and sweet tea. Mary lives in Georgia, north of Atlanta, and is Southern to the core.

Woman’s fiction

Can a woman forgive a man who doesn’t believe their second child was his. The one man who can break their daughter’s heart is retiring from the marines and moving to their hometown. She can handle the times he broke her heart, but not if he break’s their daughter’s heart.

2013_RONE_Nominee_200 (3)Before I answer my questions and introduce my baton passes, I need to beg for your vote!   Sinners’ Opera, the book of my heart, is nominated for a RONE award. First round is by popular vote. Today is the final day to vote in Paranormal Novel. You have to register to vote, but nothing is required of you. PLEASE!!!   http://indtale.com/2014-rone-awards-week-four I would really appreciate your vote!

What am I working on?

My WIP (work in progress) is titled LOVE FOR SALE. The story is about a woman disenchanted with love who sees a small ad in a women’s magazine captioned “Love for Sale”. The ad claims that Mayfair Electronics has engineered sentient androids, indistinguishable from human, with the ability for pleasure and emotion. March Morgan goes to London to buy a man.

How does my work differ from others in this genre?

My work is generally cross-genre and contains romantic elements with spicy love scenes.   I also write dark fantasy as well as _MG_0021 (3)paranormal.   My writing style is very descriptive. I try to submerge the reader in the plot and the characters, so that when that reader finishes the book, he/she feels like he/she is surfacing from a dream and sorry that it is over.

Why do I write what I write?

I write what I like to read. Also, my characters are very compelling and won’t leave me in peace until I tell their story.   Gemini Rising, my controversial dark fantasy, was born one very early Sunday morning when I lived in Miami and had been out the night before partying on Ocean Drive. I kept turning over, punching my pillow but these twins were persistent. I finally crawled from bed and began writing their tale on a legal pad in purple ink!

How does your writing process work?   I’m not a very organized writer. Usually, the book begins with one character who walks on stage and tells me the story, then another character joins until I have a full cast telling me their part of the story.   Generally, I will throw away some pages as they develop the plot, scene and setting.

Heads-up Anne Conley, J.M. Filipowicz and Toni V. Sweeney, the baton is coming your way! Visit with each of these three talented authors on April 14th.

anne in the bluebonnets (2)Anne Conley has been writing her entire life, with notebooks full of stories, bad poems, and angsty journal entries as proof.  She’s been on the Indie bandwagon for a year and a half, with ten books currently under her belt.  She’s writing two series: The Four Winds, and Stories of Serendipity.  The Four Winds currently has three books, and is paranormal romance about the Archangels, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael.  They are her attempt to reconcile her God-fearing upbringing with her smutty mind.  The Stories of Serendipity has seven books in it currently, all stand alones, and is erotic romance.  They have characters in their thirties and forties, with real jobs trying to live life with real problems, but manage to find love (and great sex) in the process.  Anne can’t wait to finish both series, and start her next project.  She just can’t decide if it will be a dystopian romance trilogy, or historical…

Anne lives in a small town in East Texas, not unlike Serendipity, with her husband, two kids and numerous goats.  She brazenly stole her pseudonym from her great-grandmother, a true pioneer woman who raised seven kids alone: churning butter, plucking chickens, knitting clothes, and putting coal oil on every visible wound.  Her writing is escapist therapy, and she succumbs to it every chance she gets.  www.anneconley.com

wardoids-510J M Filipowicz lives in a quiet condo on the surface of the moon, with a beautiful view of the cosmos through her geodesic dome. She spends her time imagining new worlds and writing stories by Earthlight. When she has to come down to Earth, she resides in Burlington, Ontario, Canada with her husband, two children and her dog, Worf.  Her first novel, Wardroids, pits female military droids against the men who enslaved them, while Commander Black and his fix-it chick Emily struggle with their feelings for each other. This entertaining twist on the classic sci fi genre is told in three distinct first person view points. Available now from Double Dragon Publishing.

Toni V. Sweeney has lived 30 years in the South, a score in the Middle West, and a decade on the Pacific Coast and now she’s trying for her second 30 on the Great Plains. Since the publication of her first novel in 1989, Toni divides her time between writing SF/Fantasy under her own name and romances often set in the South under her pseudonym Icy Snow Blackstone.   In March, 2013, she became publicity manager for Classtonipink6 (2) Act Books (US) and also Double Dragon Publishing (Canada). She is also on the review staff of the New York Journal of Books. Toni currently has 40 novels to her credit and her next release will be a reissue of her very first story, a YA science fiction titled Spacedog’s Best Friend.
