GENRE: Historical Romance

BLURB:

Can a beautiful Worthington widow find love again? Depends on who’s asking . . .

Before he died, Patience was the Earl of Worthington’s second wife. So why shouldn’t Patience be allowed a second chance at marriage, too? Of course, finding a new husband was not something the mother of four had ever planned on. But a surprise encounter with her first love has suddenly made the impossible seem possible all over again . . .

It seems like a lifetime ago that Richard, Viscount Wolverton, was halfway around the world, looking for adventure . . . while Patience, at her coming-out, was left with no choice but to take old Worthington’s hand. Richard never forgot the woman whose heart he yearned for—and now that he’s back, he’s not going to let her slip away again . . .

Excerpt:

cover-second-time-002Pulteney Hotel, London, 1815

“And this is Viscount Wolverton.” Patience Worthington watched as Almeria, Lady Bellamny, smiled as she introduced the gentleman to the Duchess of Bristol. Almeria turned her black eyes on Patience. The smile didn’t fade at all as she said, “Wolverton, I believe you have already met the Dowager Countess of Worthington.”

What in God’s name is he doing here? Patience inclined her head and held out her hand. “Indeed. The years have treated you well, my lord.”

Bowing, he took her fingers in his. “As they have done to you, my lady.”

His lips hovered over her hand as she prayed he would do nothing more than kiss the air above them, but no. The devil pressed his warm, firm lips to her knuckles; even through her gloves she could feel his touch and fought the urge to suck in a breath. “Thank you, my lord.”

One would think after all these years and his betrayal she would be immune to him. And one would be wrong. She held her breath, counting—One, two, three, four, five. Thank God—until he finally straightened and returned her hand to her. Thank God! Patience let out the breath, yet she could not control the pounding in her breast. It took all the control she had not to make an excuse and leave the room. Yet, she could not do that to Dotty Stern, soon to be the Marchioness of Merton.

“He has been a friend for a very long time,” Almeria continued, as if she had no idea of the havoc she had created by inviting Wolverton. “Though he hardly ever comes to Town.”

“Well, my dear,” Lord Bellamny said, “you couldn’t be here so often if it wasn’t for the help he gives me. Someone must assist me in my experiments.”

“Very true, my dear.”

Patience made the mistake of glancing up at the same moment Richard Wolverton stared down at her. His amber eyes smoldered as they had the last time she had seen him, only days before her marriage to the old Earl of Worthington.

hergeneralingray_w11068_medHere’s an excerpt from Her General in Gray.  Autumn had asked Sib about the Civil War. This is his poignant description of Antietam:

She urged him back down on the sofa.  “You look comfortable.” Taking a deep breath, she plunged, “Sib, tell me about the battle where Beau supposedly shot you.”

antietam_11454_lg“It’s scarcely a bedtime story, and there’s no supposedly about it.” He closed his eyes, his voice grating low but surprisingly distant as if he hadn’t fought in the conflict.  “September 17. 1862, Lee met George McClellan near Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg, Maryland in the first battle fought on northern soil.  It was the bloodiest single day in American history.  More than 22,000 casualties.  Beauregard made sure I was one of them.

“Most of the first part of the battle was fought in farmer David Miller’s cornfield, then came the bloody head-on attacks against our center. Our reinforcements arrived late…” He spoke haltingly. “After the Union soldiers had pierced our line. The area was later called Bloody Lane.”

“I had lost the Black but had a good mount.  A tall, stout gray.”  He opened his eyes.  “That’s enough, Autumn.”

Tears clung to her lashes, threatening to drizzle down her cheeks.  “Oh my God.”

author interviews, book series, Candy Hearts Romance Series, erotic romance, new releases, TWRP

I’m fortunate to have as my guest today erotic romance writer Anita Kidescu and she has agreed to subject herself to an interview!  So, here’s Anita:

 What is your greatest temptation:

            In men: A man with a dark beard – not a shaggy one, though

            In food: Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

            In clothes: Jogging pants and sweatshirts

 What is your greatest weakness (example: buying shoes)? Buying books

 If you could have any kind of car, what would it be? An old 57 Chevy – light blue and white

perf5.000x8.000.indd Your dream home – mountains or ocean? A log home in the mountains in the summer, Beach house in the winter (I live in Northern Wisconsin)

 What inspired you to become a writer? My grandmother loved to write. She was never published, but she encouraged me.

Do you have a daily writing routine?  If so, please share. I get my best writing done in the afternoons. Mornings (when I’m home) are spent with promo stuff.

What is your favorite book? That is a tough one. I have so many. My keeper shelf is filled with Jude Deveraux, LaVyrle Spencer, and Kathleen Woodiwiss’ books.

 What is your favorite movie? I don’t watch a lot of movies. My latest, though, would be “A Dog’s Purpose.”

Who is your favorite historical figure? Abraham Lincoln

perf5.000x8.000.indd In your books, who is your favorite hero and please introduce him? It’s a toss up between Jack in South Seas Seduction and Eric in Surprise Again. Jack, a pilot acts like a tough guy, but is a real softie. His flaws make me laugh. I think I’m in love with him. Eric, has been wounded by his ex-wife, yet still longs to find the right one to love and love him.

Who is your favorite heroine and please introduce her? My favorite female character would be Emma in South Seas Seduction. In the book, she went from a sheltered, shy woman, to a feisty, take no prisoners woman.

What do you have out now?  Surprise Me Again:

perf5.000x8.000.inddBlurb:
Charged with trespassing and indecent exposure on Erik Stenson’s private beach, Carson and Josie Sandberg return to South Padre Island to take care of the ticket. However, their reunion with Erik is not what they expected. An invitation for a drink turns into a weekend of passion that fulfills fantasies and leaves all parties wanting to explore a threesome outside the bedroom. Will time, distance, and family issues stand in the way, or will they be surprised again?

Excerpt: “What about you?” Josie said. “Have you ever been married?”

“I was. Years ago. It didn’t last.”

A flicker of sorrow passed over Josie’s eyes. “Can you tell us what happened?” She frowned into her drink. “That is, if you want to.”

“It’s okay. I married Jessica about…” Hell how long had it been? Where had the time gone? “I guess nearly twenty years ago. Like you, we met in college, fell in love, married. Things were good for a few years.”

Josie leaned to her side, allowing the waiter to place a plate before her. Ignoring her food, she folded her hands under chin and kept her attention on him. “What happened?”

“We wanted children. Jessica ached for children. It became an obsession.” Eric took one of the large shrimp from the platter in the middle of the table and began peeling it with trembling fingers, giving him a chance to get his emotions under control. Lord, how he’d wanted children, but not enough to end his marriage.

“After a few years when we didn’t conceive, we looked for answers. By that time Jessica was convinced she was the problem and fell into a deep depression. Nothing I did helped. She wouldn’t agree to see a counselor. My mother finally convinced us to seek a fertilization doctor.” Eric threw the shrimp on his plate and took a long swallow of beer. “Turns out I was the problem, not her. Seems those mumps I’d had as a kid did a number on my little swimmers. Killed them all.”

“Hell, that’s awful, man,” Carson said while Josie placed her hand on Eric’s.

Their sympathy nearly did him in. He swallowed around the lump in his throat and squeezed his damp eyes.

After all these years, the pain was still buried under his heart only to surface on dark, lonely nights and like now as he recounted the story. They were the first ones he’d opened up to. None of the other people in his threesomes had even cared to ask.

Carson took a sip of his beer. “What happened then?”

“I wanted to adopt. Wanted to create a family with Jessica. It didn’t matter if the children were of our blood or not. The doctors had talked about in-vitro. Turns out Jessica didn’t feel the same way.” He took deep breath and tried to calm his pounding heart. He wiped his palms on his shorts.

“I came home one day with information on adoption and some on in-vitro fertilization only to find her and her stuff gone. She had left me a note, telling me she wanted children from her own body. Wanted to create them naturally. Didn’t want to be married to a man who wasn’t a man.”

“The bitch,” Josie said, her eyes filling with tears. “Oops, sorry. I shouldn’t have called her that.”

“Don’t worry. I’ve called her that and worse.”

“How the hell did you handle it?” Carson asked. “I would have been devastated if Josie had done that to me.”

“I drank and buried myself in my writing. I wrote my first novel during this time.”

“If I recall, that book was rather cutting against women,” Carson said.

Eric shook his head and chuckled. “Yeah. I enjoyed killing off my heroine. Coincidentally, she closely resembled my ex.”

“Did you get in trouble for it?” Josie asked, peeling her third shrimp.

“Since I use a pen name, I don’t think she even knows I write. Besides, she was too busy finding another husband to father her eight children.”

Carson choked on his beer. “Eight?”

“Yeah. She really did want kids, but I’m not sure I would have agreed to that many. I was also told she’s gained about a hundred pounds.” Under Josie’s quiet scrutiny, he dropped his gaze to his plate.

“It still hurts, though, doesn’t it?” Josie asked.

Eric shrugged. “It’s not as bad as it was. I sometimes think about how I could have kids in college or be a grandfather by now.”

 New releases anytime soon? Surprise Me Again, just came out on Feb. 10th. It’s the continuing story of Josie and Carson from Surprise Me. I just sent their sons’ story to my editor. We have to come up with a title, and I have no idea when it will be released.

Where can eager fans find you?

FBI Special Agent Josh Blake has seen some bizarre cases in his day. His latest case is one for the record books. He has multiple homicides, corpses drained of every ounce of blood, and no suspects. When rumors surface that the French Quarter may be hiding an insidious monster bent on drenching the streets in dead bodies, he must suspend logic and place his trust in the mystical.

Now a successful business owner of Madam Toussánt’s Mystical Gifts in Jackson Square, and a Seer with voodoo roots. The foundation of her new life shatters when one of her employee’s winds up dead and she is dragged into a deadly game where she becomes the target of a serial killer.

A passion neither expected…

etermined to stop the brutal slayings, Josh must rely on the beautiful Isabelle who makes him question everything he has ever known about life and death all while surrendering to a desire hotter than a Bayou night. When Isabelle disappears without a trace, with tourists flocking to the party capital for Halloween, and the body count continues to mount, Josh will be forced to push beyond the boundaries of what he thinks is possible and rescue the woman he loves before it’s too late.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
“Miss Toussánt.” Captain Tremayne addressed her above the din and chaos.
She swung around, her long dark hair, the silky wave of it, shimmering and rippling as mediakit_bookcover_casketgirl-002she faced the captain. Josh took one look at Miss Isabelle Toussánt and felt like a thoroughbred had just kicked him in the stomach.
She was exotic, with caramel skin and looking taut and lean in her formfitting tank that displayed delicate arms. He sucked in a sharp breath when she glanced at the captain. Cat eyes. The mahogany color reminded Josh of his chestnut mare as a child, Daisy. They were framed by black brows. One of them was currently raised in his direction as she spoke to the captain.
“Yes, Captain Tremayne? Can I interest you in a cup of coffee?” Her voice reminded him of a shot of smooth, single malt whiskey.
“Miss Toussánt, this is Agent Josh Blake with the FBI. He has some questions, if you’re up for them.”
A wounded shadow passed through her magnetic eyes for a moment before she shifted her gaze toward him. The unabridged effect of her stare was electric and compelling, until he found himself immersed in her eyes. Unexpected lust zinged along his spine, not that he would give in to the temptation she presented, but his body resonated with the siren’s call her body echoed.
“Agent, can I interest you in some coffee?” She held up a glass carafe of steaming brew, already half empty.
“Not right now, Miss Toussánt. Thank you for the offer, though,” he murmured gently but firmly. It smelled like heaven, but he didn’t want to coddle her. She needed to understand he was in charge and would dig into her background no matter how sweetly her hips swished as she walked.
“Please call me Isabelle,” she offered with a slight smile, but it didn’t spread to her eyes. No amount of coffee or alcohol would erase the vision of death. He knew what that first time was like, though, the horror of it, the way it twisted your insides. Seeing for the first time how fragile life truly was made you face your own mortality. And, more important, you began to understand that some individuals just wanted to watch the world burn.
“Is there somewhere we can talk privately?” he asked, assessing her response, both verbal and non-verbal, ignoring the intense desire churning in his gut as he studied her. If there was one thing Miss Toussánt was, it was off-limits. It didn’t matter how long it had been since he’d done the horizontal tango. If there was one thing he was strictly by the book on, it was that he never blurred the lines in a case. The evidence either convicted a person or set them free. As it was, she was a witness to a horrific murder, possibly more.
There was something off about her that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. The way her eyes darted nervously around, and she kept wetting her pouty bottom lip. It could be signs of trauma and shock from discovering the body, or it could be she was hiding something. Perhaps she’d witnessed the incident and feared the killer would come back for her if he knew.
“Certainly, follow me.” Isabelle returned the carafe to the coffeemaker, wiped her palms along her skirt and nodded toward a doorway in the far corner.
He would have followed her into hell if it meant listening to her sultry voice some more and siphoning whatever information she had on this case.
Dream Waters (Book One)
Dream World (Book Two)
Dream Sight (Book Three)
GENRE:  Contemporary Fantasy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:  DREAM WATERS – Book One

 All his life, Charlie Oliver has watched the people around him morph into creatures that no one else sees.  Unlike the rest of the world, Charlie remembers the Waters that transport him to the Dream World each night.  And he sees glimpses of people’s Dream forms in the waking world.  Condemned to spend his waking hours in a psychiatric facility because of his Dream Sight, Charlie doesn’t expect anything to change.  But everything starts changing the day Emma Talbot walks through the door in the middle of a group therapy session.

Haunted by memories of the events that led to her admission, Emma plans to end her life the first chance she gets.  But something about Charlie stops her.  From the moment they shake hands, his friendship feels safe and familiar.  As Emma begins to let down her guard, Charlie catches a glimpse of the fiery-eyed dragon that lurks behind her Dream form.  Each night, as Emma dreams of the man who’s been banned from visiting, Charlie searches the Dream World for the monster that shadows her.  But when Emma’s suppressed memories begin to surface, Charlie finds more monsters than he bargained for.

Excerpt – Dream Waters:

“Where were you afraid I’d land when I fell in and why did you say finding the dragon wouldn’t be easy?”

She started drawing waves in the sand with her finger and I got the distinct impression she was doing it to avoid looking at me. “Honestly Charlie, I wasn’t sure where you’d land. It’s unpredictable when you don’t jump on purpose. You could end up anywhere the people you’ve met have been. You’re a mental patient. Can you imagine the sections of Dream some patients might inhabit?” Her finger stopped drawing mid-wave. “Trust me boy. There are Dark places in the Dream World, places you should never go. Venture too far into them and you risk losing a part of yourself to the Darkness.”

I was really getting tired of the cryptic shit. “Great. Thanks for the vague ominous warning. I was afraid you might give me an actual answer for a second there.”

“I’ve already said too much.” Even at a whisper there was a waver to her voice. “Just thank me for keeping you safe and jump back into the Water.”

“I don’t know which world I find you more annoying in.” It wasn’t the nicest thing to say to the one person who understood me but I said it out of frustration and maybe a little out of fear.

Nellie was about to snarl something back, but the leaves of some bushes just off the beach started rustling and I hopped to my feet to get a better look. “Something’s over there.”

Nellie stood up with a weary sigh and as she turned toward the bushes I saw the scars. Large deep identical scars marring the flesh on both of her shoulder blades.

I took a step closer to her. “What happened to your back?”

She turned and gave me a hard shove toward the Water’s edge. “It’s time for you to go now Charlie.” It caught me by surprise and knocked me off balance, back into the surf and the icy Water pulled me back in.”

Hello Valentine Seekers!

I’d like to introduce you to my favorite of my characters—English lord, renowned classical pianist…and a vampire since 1659, the year before Charles II was restored to the throne of England.
the-summoning-manMorgan Gabriel D’Arcy is 6’2” with long blond hair and British blue eyes. I used to hope I’d meet someone like him (minus the vampire bit).  He is svelte, sexy, sensual, and just generally yummy.  He loves the ladies to a fault.

Now, I’ll let him have the stage and tell you about himself.

MorganHullo and welcome to Morgan on a half-shell.  I was born in the year of our Lord 1634, became the Earl of St. Averil in 1645 when my father perished fighting with the Royalist army at the Battle of Naseby.  My ancestral home, Royal Oak, commands a view of the sea from a hill overlooking a hamlet on the coast of Devon. I spend a great deal of time in London, however.  There’s not much call for a concert pianist on the coast of Devon.

I studied piano with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, on a harpsicord then, of course.  Later, I studied with Liszt, Ravel and Debussy. I was a fighter pilot in World War II, flying night missions over Nazi Germany.  Today, I fly a Lear jet to and from Royal Oak and London, sometimes ferrying members of my brethren to the Europe for continental fare.

The most important thing I want to tell you is the nature of my race—the Vampyre.  The most sacred creed of our kind is The Pact, and compared to the Ten Commandments, it is rather lax. Exceot…

The Masquerade. All of us are bound by an oath of secrecy concerning our true nature and our very existence. The Vampyre are viral mutations. The newbie is transformed in a ritual blood exchange wherein a fragile virus is introduced into the host. The blood borne pathogen is a mutagen.  BTW, most humans are viral mutations but to a much lesser degree.

Ever your servant,

Morgan

~~~~~~
Reviewers have said of Morgan:
RT Book Reviews:  There are shades of the illustrious Lestat in the haughty Lord Morgan Gabriel D’Arcy, however, Linda Nightingale provides several interesting twists on the traditional vampire myth that makes this vampire (and his nocturnal adventures) into something wholly unique.
NY Journal of Books calls him: “…a tour de force of egotism, wit, sensuality, and talent”
Autumn Hartley purchases Allen Hall at a steal, but the northern lass gets far more than a beautiful plantation in the South Carolina Low Country. The house comes complete with its own ghost, a handsome and charming Civil War General—for the Confederacy. The stage is set for another civil conflict.
John Sibley Allen died in battle from a wound in the back, the bullet fired by the turncoat, Beauregard Dudley. The traitor’s reincarnation is Autumn the Interloper’s first dinner guest. Sib bedevils her date and annoys her with fleeting, phantom touches, certain he can frighten her away as he did previous purchasers. As time marches on, her resident ghost becomes more appealing while her suitor, Beau, pales in comparison. Autumn finds her ability to love didn’t perish in the divorce that sent her south seeking a fresh start.
After over a century in the hereafter, Sib discovers he is falling for none other than the feisty Yankee girl, but what future could a modern woman and an old-fashioned ghost possibly hope for?
Katelyn Devereaux Finds Herself in a Mystery
dreamstime_15864572-original-copy-2-002Hi, my name is Katelyn Devereaux. Maybe you’ve heard of me, or at least my dad’s advertising agency, the Devereaux Agency. I guess I should say my advertising agency, but I’m ahead of myself.
Up until last Thanksgiving, I had a pretty cushy life. I had to parents who loved me, or so I thought. I lived just outside of Denver in a converted barn, and I had a job I loved with clients I worked well with. You see I went to school to be graphic artist, and if I do say so myself, I’m very good at it.
Of course, everything changed when my folks were returning from a post-Thanksgiving trip to California. My dad was a pilot and he was flying his own plane when something went wrong and it crashed. In an instant, I was an orphan, or so I thought. I was also the sole owner of the Devereaux Advertising Agency.
It was around the time of my birthday when I finally went through some of my dad’s papers and learned I was adopted. You heard me right. I was adopted and never knew it. I no sooner found the papers when I got a call from the adoption agency saying my birth family wanted to find me. Well, believe you me, I didn’t want them to find me.
Finally, my friend Katie told me I needed to get away from everything, including the man who wanted to marry me, Martin. Of course, he’s another story. He’s a lot older than me and although I know my dad would approve of him I can’t see myself married to someone who could be my father.
Everything hit the fan when I went to Wisconsin with Katie and met her neighbor, Seth Miller. It wasn’t a great meeting. I was on the dock drawing a picture of a Mallard Duck when he came up the beach and called me by someone else’s name.
I think you get the picture, it was a case of MISTAKEN IDENTITY, but he scared away my duck and I was quite upset about it.
If you want to find out what happened next, please read my story in MISTAKEN IDENTITY by Sherry Derr-Wille and published by CLASS ACT BOOKS.
Thank you for letting me tell you my story.
Mistaken Identity:
mistaken-identity-002Katelyn Devereaux needs a vacation. More than a vacation, she needs to put Denver behind her as well as the man who wants her as his wife and the birth family who is insisting on finding her.
A secluded cottage on a lake in Wisconsin sounds like the perfect spot to get away—or is it?
Seth Miller knows the reason that he mistook Katelyn for Genean is his knowledge that his best friend’s wife was adopted by strangers at birth. Of course he can’t change the facts that Genean and Katelyn are sisters, especially after he learns that the company she wants to visit in Wisconsin is owned by Genean’s brother, Randy, and her husband, Brad.
