Life keeps us busy! Planning a webinar takes time. Selling that webinar takes time! Selling our books takes time.Tutoring and editing keep me from having time for much mischief. Cleaning is not happening!

I have no time to read novels I’m not editing, but I can manage to read an occasional short story. Anthologies are wonderful since they contain shorter reads.  When Gilded Dragonfly Books planned an anthology for Valentine’s Day we wanted to write stories with an audience that includes people who might not read typical romances. Some of us chose older heroines and unexpected  couples. We promise a happily ever after in these nine stories in Finding Love’s Magic.

Finding Love’s Magic is the perfect gift for someone you love or for yourself!  In Cupid’s Bow, Georgia anything can happen.  No one knows a goddess lives in the southern town playing matchmaker. Ghosts haunt houses and normal…

For the Love of Roses

Excerpt from, Plants for a Medieval Herb Garden in the British Isles, By Beth Trissel

rosebud

(Old fashioned rosebud)

The English Tudor Rose is the heraldic floral emblem of England. The red rose was the badge of the House of Lancaster during the English War of the Roses. The badge for the House of York was the white rose. When Henry V11 took the crown of England from Richard 111 in battle, 1485, he ended that particular war. He introduced the Tudor rose, combining a red rose, representing the House of Lancaster, and a white rose, representing the House of York, as a symbol of unity after the English civil wars of the 15th century which later came to be called the Wars of the Roses.

The exact species of the Lancaster’s Red Rose is uncertain, but it’s thought to be Rosa gallica officinalis, also known as the Apothecary’s Rose, possibly the first cultivated rose…

A Sequel to Love For Sale!

#amwriting, book series, PRG Reviewers Award, romance, sci-fi romance, sequels, stand alone novels

I wrote a sequel to Love For Sale (The Wild Rose Press) sometime ago, but the editorLoveForSale_w9468_med didn’t particularly like it.  I have since returned to the Black Rose line and my original editor, Callie Lynn Wolfe–Love her!  While Love for a Song sat in my computer, the story started to change in my mind.

The book belongs to  Daniel, a secondary character in Love For Sale. It’s his love story and furthers the world of the androids themselves, introducing new characters–steadily growing as the plot changes in my head.  I also changed the name to Life For Sale. Hopefully, I’ll be ready to send this book to Callie by end of next month.  The original will need a lot of work before it is morphs into my new vision of it. The book will definitely be darker than the original concept, but I think more believable.

Love For Sale was the Paranormal Romance Guild’s Reviewers’ Choice in Sci-Fi Romance in 2015.  You can pick up a copy on Amazon or at The Wild Rose Press website.prg-002

First Contact = Shivery!

Amazon, Author Kat Green, book reviews, ghost stories, GoodReads, recommended reads, thrillers

Today, I posted the review of Author Kat Green’s chilling but warming (how is that? Read the book!) novel, First Contact.

first-contact“I don’t read ghost stories, quite frankly because they give me cold shivers. I didn’t exactly sleep with the lights on when I read First Contact, but the book is chilling while at the same time having a lovely love plot woven cleverly through the story. I bought this book because it came highly recommended by a friend who devours books in short order as a must read. From the first time he walked on stage, I was hoping Joshua would get the girl. I’m not going to divulge whether he did or not, but I think you’ll like the characters and enjoy them as much as I did. Sloane, the heroine, stepped off the page into reality (if you can call her chosen profession reality) immediately and kept the pages turning until the end and way too late most nights when I’d surface from the story and realize it was time for bed. Even the ghosts “come alive” and become moving forces in this tale of misguided love and madness. Take a deep breath and jump into First Contact. You’ll finish it in a short time because you can’t stop reading — even if the hair at your napes ripples and a shiver leaps down your spine! I look forward to reading more of Kat Green’s well-plotted and well-written novels. Next!”

I recommend that you take a look at this book. You won’t regret the journey.

Pink Fuzzy Slippers Authors

Today I’m sharing the recipe for Cream of Broccoli soup, one of my family’s favorite winter soups. You’ll love how easy it is!

soup-570922_1280

You’ll need:

2 tablespoons butter
2 10 oz. frozen chopped broccoli (thawed)
1 onion
1 ½ cups water
1 approximately 10 oz. can creamy potato soup
1 ½ cups half and half (I use low-fat)
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and saute until tender. Add water to saucepan and bring to boil, then add broccoli and reduce heat. Stir in the other ingredients and simmer until broccoli is tender. Transfer 1 1/2 cups of soup to blender and puree until smooth. Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste.

Enjoy!

Unimaginable Lover by Rosalie Redd!

unimaginable-lover-other-sites-002Blurb:

A shifter and a human together? Unimaginable…

One careless decision. The colony betrayed. Tanen’s only course is a desperate hunt for justice, but his solo mission is cut short when he’s mortally wounded. Rescued by a sweet, innocent woman, he can’t deny the passion that burns between them. Now he must choose between his duty and honor or his desire for the precious, but forbidden, human female.

Broken promises and ruined love hardened Sheri’s heart. When she finds an injured and extraordinarily sexy man on her property, she’s pulled into a world she never imagined. As she nurses him back to health and they bond over their love of books, she’s torn between the lessons she learned from her rough past and the need to seek solace in Tanen’s arms, but she must learn to trust him, and herself, in order to survive.

Excerpt:

Sheri’s pulse raced as a strange mixture of shock and desire coursed through her veins. The tall, muscular stranger pinned her against the wall. One second she’d pressed 9-1—on her phone and the next, she was here, in his arms.

His biceps bulged, and she had a sudden urge to run her fingers over them, feel the steel that was below the surface, but her hands were trapped at his hips. She gripped his taut waist, and his heat bore into her, warming her fingers, tingling the sensitive nerves. Although caged in his embrace, he was gentle with her, holding back the strength that ebbed from him in waves. As he leaned in, his breath cascaded over her shoulder, warm and enticing.

“No infirmary.” His gravelly, rough command came out on a whisper.

She should’ve feared him, this stranger in her home trapping her in his arms, but instead, her insides melted, warmed by his touch, his voice, his scent. Something about him made her long for more.

So focused on the man who held her so close, she hadn’t noticed Coop. His insistent barks echoed through the house.

The man tensed, and in the process his lean body pressed tighter against hers. Her skin prickled at the contact.

With a quick glance over his shoulder, she caught sight of her pet. He growled, his lips curled over his fangs.

“No, Coop. Stop!”

His back legs bunched in preparation for his attack.

The man didn’t release her, but turned to face her dog. He held out one hand, palm open. “Halt.”

Coop’s growl faded.

He took a tentative step forward.

His nose quivered, and a small whimper eased from his chest. Her pet, an ex-police dog trained to track and defend, placed his muzzle under the stranger’s palm.

She gasped. If she hadn’t seen this for herself, she wouldn’t have believed it. He patted Coop on the head, and the dog’s tail beat against the floor.

The man’s eyes were red-rimmed, and sweat coated his forehead. “I have to leave…”

His eyes glazed over, and his grip around her waist loosened.

As her hands traveled along the space between them, her fingers trailed over the firm muscles of his abdomen and chest. The strength and power under his skin lit up her nerves. She moved a stray hair away from his brow and focused on his eyes. Bottomless pools of blue, they reflected the pain hidden behind his features.

Her chest constricted. “Please, let me help you.”

His gaze fell to her mouth, and he reached up to stroke her bottom lip with his thumb, teasing her. “How? Like this?”

Before she could stop him, he slipped his hand around the base of her neck and pulled her close.

GENRE: Women’s Fiction/Romance

BLURB:

On her fortieth birthday housewife Wanda Jo Ashton is expecting her husband’s standard gift of an E and E from T-that being Elegant and Expensive from Tiffany’s. However, what she gets is the news that her formerly successful, dependable corporate attorney husband is leaving her to pursue the rich life of a kept man. Left with nothing she has no choice but to escape the San Francisco area, with her sixteen-year-old daughter in tow and head toward the mountains of West Virginia and the quirky family she left behind twenty years ago. Here Wanda Jo must carve out a future, complete with career and home in the midst of family feuds, computer phobias and the occasional homebrewing explosion before she finally figures out life can indeed being again at forty.

Excerpt:

No sooner had I placed my half-empty mug on the counter than I heard a distantly familiar hissing sound. But before I could remember when I’d last heard it there was the unmistakable groan of old wood followed by an explosion loud enough to rival cannon fire and then the sound of splintering wood.

Olivia looked at me, eyes wide with shock. I looked at Sam. We both looked at Nettie, who sat with her eyes wide and one hand over her mouth. “Oops,” she squeeked.

Mama just sighed and kept washing dishes.

Sam and I hurried to the front door. He got there first and shoved it open with one massive shoulder. I stared out in stunned disbelief. The right side of the porch had been reduced to a pile of splintered boards, sprinkled here and there with, broken glass. One of the posts and collapsed and the other dangled from its gingerbread trim.

The usually fresh morning air reeked of fermenting apples.

“A tad too much yeast.” Nettie tsked from somewhere near my elbow, before turning to toddle back toward the kitchen lost in thought.

Well, it was official. We were home and had just survived another of Aunt Nettie’s homebrewing explosions.
