1871 . . . Worlds collide when American Suffragette, Gertrude Finch, and titled Brit Blake Sanders meet in an explosive encounter that may forever bind them together. Gertrude Finch escorts a young relative to London and encounters the stuffy Duke of Wexford at his worst. Cross the Ocean is the story of an undesired, yet undeniable attraction that takes Blake and Gertrude across an ocean and into each other’s arms.

Excerpt:

London 1871

“Pardon me?”

MEDIA KIT Cross the Ocean Large (2)The starch in Mrs. Wickham’s black dress seemed to wilt as she quivered. The soft folds of her jowls shook. “The Duchess is not coming down, Your Grace,” she repeated.

The Duke of Wexford stood stock-still. The guests were to descend on his ancestral home in a matter of moments. The candles lit, the buffet laid, the flowers had bloomed on cue. The last remaining detail was the receiving line.

“Mrs. Wickham. There is a small matter of greeting two hundred and fifty guests arriving momentarily. The Duchess needs to attend them,” Blake Sanders, the Eighth Duke of Wexford, said sternly to his housekeeper.

When the woman had announced his wife would not be joining him, Sanders was certain he had not heard correctly. The Duchess knew her duties, as did he.  He turned abruptly to the staircase and stopped as a shiver trailed down his arms. He turned back. The rotund woman had not moved other than the flitting of small hairs peeking out of her mobcap.  After twenty-five years of service to his family, he supposed she stood rooted for good reason.

The Duke spoke quietly. “Is there a problem conveying this message, Mrs. Wickham?”

The woman swallowed. “Yes, Your Grace. There is.”

“What is it, Mrs. Wickham?” he asked.

It was then he noticed a folded piece of paper in the woman’s hand. As with most lifetime retainers, he had seen worry, seen anger and joy in her face. But never fear. And it was fear indeed that hung in the air, widened her eyes and had the missive shaking in pudgy fingers.

Trading Cards Ordered!

25 Sunday Aug 2013

Georgia Romance Writers, Moonlight & Magnolias, paranormal romance, Pyramid collection, Sinners' Opera, trading cards, vampire, writers' convention

Yesterday, in anticipation of my trip to Atlanta and Moonlight & Magnolias (a writers’ conference), I ordered trading cards for three of the characters from Sinners’ Opera.  My son helped me with the template (thank goodness!  I don’t even know how to open that Adobe program).  The front is the cover; the back an image of the character and a description.  I had planned to post the cards but WordPress won’t upload a PDF.  Say, did anyone notice that the apostrophe on the cover is a fang?

This morning, I feel like rambling.  For M&M, I am putting together an Author’s Basket for raffle.  I got a really good price on a Waterford Marquis wine stopper for the basket.  I’m including Vampire wine (cabernet), a wine opener, and, among other things, chocolate. There’ll also be an autographed copy of Sinners’ Opera.  I’m putting the trading cards on the goodies table and in the basket.  I’ll be at the book signing with Sinners’ Opera and Gemini Rising.  Can’t decide how many copies to ship to Atlanta.  Would appreciate pointers on that.

I also want to have votives on the goodies table.  The candle is wrapped in net, tied with a ribbon and a business card attached.  These go really fast.

Costumes are encouraged for the dinner.  I’m wearing my vampire dress and a vampire choker.  Mary and meThis is the dress and the cute petite woman beside me is an old friend and author, Mary Marvella Barfield.  I think the photo was taken at Romantic Times Convention.  How do you like the black wig?

The choker is velvet with red Swarovski crystals.  I’ll wear the choker to the book signing, too.  I’ve wanted it for ages but wouldn’t spend the money.

Here it is!

As you can tell, I’m excited about the conference.  There will be a lot of people I know there, including Mary.

Enough rambling for a Sunday morning.  Back to work on Sinners’ Obsession, the sequel to Sinners’ Opera.

Have a fabulous day.

Who’d have thought! I do now!

That Trolls could be sexy, exciting and intriguing.  Sheri has forever altered my POV on trolls.  Check out this HOT cover!  Calm down Linda.

Sheri is going to discuss a topic close to the heart of every writer…and of utmost interest to every reader…

Sheri:  Those non-human critters, gotta love ’em! They’re taking over the literary world by storm. You view their faces on a movie poster marquee and see the retail footprints soon after.

How are those creatures brought to life? What makes them so darn believable that the public goes wild?

It all begins with a little planning…

The basic premise of writing non-human characters is having an idea of what your creature is like. Even for pantsers, a character chart written waaaaaay before your blank screen blinks to life will help your story evolve. Characteristics only found in certain species can take on new meaning with a little pre-planning.

Decide what your creature will be.

Monster? Other worldly? Mythological? Make a list of characteristics similar and different from humans.

World building: Where will they live?

On Mars in an undiscovered ecosystem? Perhaps your creature will live on an entirely different astro-plane. Take into consideration the environment: Desert, jungle, mountains, under water. Perhaps all environs, like Earth?

What is their environment like?

If it’s cold, how do they stay warm? Same goes for extreme heat. How does their environment affect the society in which they live or their chemical make-up? What makes them unique in their environment?

How do they interact with others within their society?

Do they live in packs or as hermits? Is the basis in which their society is formed based on the interaction? Do they elect their leaders or is it a fight to the top? Perhaps it’s more like royalty and they’re born into their position.

Troll-y Yours fantasy romance (2)Excerpt from Troll-y Yours, Book 2 of The Centaurs:

Prized warm wetness coated his fingers and she whimpered, her shapely hips undulated against his hand. He matched the rhythm to his thrusting tongue.“Relax, angel.”

“It’s too much,” she whimpered.

“I’ve got you.”

“And it’s not enough.” Her eyes closed, head thrown back, mouth slack with lust.

Holy horns of Pan. The little Troll was one hot number.

Shivers raced through her delicious body. Her inner muscles clenched around his fingers that worked magic between her legs.

Ella was close, so close to her peak.

Alek never wished for his human body as badly as he wished for it now. He wanted Ella in his bed, on her back, with him planted firmly between her golden thighs.

Shit, it could never be while he remained in his true form. He slid his wet fingers from her body and dipped to pick her up. Two strides with his four legs, and he tossed her on his floorbed.

Millions of air beads inside the mattress crackled softly in adjustment to her weight. A conventional bed would never hold his equine body. Even a frame made of iron would buckle as if it were made of aluminum.

In a smooth move, Alek folded his hocks beneath him and joined her, his wide shoulders nestled between her legs.

“Oh no! No, no, no,” she squealed, shoving at his head, trying to rise.

Alek put his palm on Ella’s belly and held her still.

She squirmed in return.

“What’s wrong with a little taste?” He waggled his brows at her, then dipped down for a lick.

“You’re a complete sicko. People don’t do this—do they?

“They do, Kalos, and more.”Alek used his thumbs to rub her clit, and watched Ella’s eyes rolled back and close. Then he separated her folds, laid the flat of his tongue against her, and lapped. With each pass over her tight bud of nerves, he stoked her fire hotter. Luscious sighs and tangy musk filled his senses, drawing him back with a greed for more.

He sucked her clit mercilessly—and tongue-fucked her. When her knees drew up and she clutched the sides of his head, he inserted two fingers into her wet warmth.

Ella’s moan was light at first, a whisper of sound that floated from her parted lips.

He pumped his fingers faster. Her cries became louder. When his lips fastened to her swollen little nub and he reached to fondle her breast, all kolasi broke loose. Her hips bucked off the bed, and he took the ride with his face squeezed between her lovely thighs. Around his fingers, the muscles of her channel pulsed with her orgasm.

The explosion rocked her body in a long keening that had Meat Wrench growling to be inside.

Alek hastily shoved his need away. Mating would not happen while their bodies remained in opposite states, no matter how much he wanted it.

But this will keep you dreaming of me for next time, Sweet Ella. Then, you won’t be inclined to say no.

One orgasm ended, another began. Over and over, he worked to gain every drop she offered, and then some.

“One day I’ll be inside you, Ella.”

“I need you inside me, Al.”

May I introduce Roselle Fountain…to her friends Ellie…

Ellie's Legacy1My special guest this evening is Miss Roselle Fountain, the heroine from author, Ginger Simpson’s western historical, Ellie’s Legacy.  Welcome, Roselle.

RF – *Fidgeting* Oh please call me Ellie.  I’ve never much identified with such a flowery name.  You probably can’t tell by the way I’m dressed today, but I’ve always been somewhat of a tomboy.

Linda – *Laughing*.  So I’ve heard.  You look very nice in your flowered print—very much the lady.

RF – That’s Pa’s doing.  He insisted that if I was going to make an appearance, I needed to dress like a lady.  I’d much rather be wearing britches and boots. *Tugs at the neckline of her dress*.  These things are too danged uncomfortable at times.

Linda – So, Ellie, tell the readers a little about the novel in which you headline.

RF – *Grins* Well, I can’t give away too much.  Ginger would skin me alive, but I’m sure she won’t mind me telling you that it’s got a little romance, a lot of western, and even more feistiness than her last historical romance.  It all starts when Pa hires Tyler Bishop as the ranch foreman.  I kinda figured Pa always wanted a son, and Ty proves me right. Their relationship gets me pretty riled up.  I have a bad temper at times… I think it comes from this red hair.  *pulls a strand of hair forward and smiles*.

Linda – So, besides your being jealous of Ty, is there any adventure involved.

RF – Oh, you bet.  *Squares herself in her chair*.  The polecats that live on the neighboring ranch are aiming to get Fountainhead away from Pa.  Dude Bryant and his twin boys are meaner than snakes… well at least Dude and Jason are.  Joshua comes across as quiet and a follower.  But, *balls hands into fists* I’ll be danged if they’re gonna get my legacy.  I actually bought a gun and taught myself to shoot it.

Linda – A gun?  What do you plan to do with it?

RF – Protect Fountainhead of course.  I’m aim to show Pa he don’t need Tyler Bishop around when he has me.  I just wish that Ty wasn’t so dang good lookin’.

Linda  – I haven’t heard you mention your mother.  How does she feel about you owning a gun?

RF – *Lowers her eyes*.  My ma died when I was very young.  I suppose that’s why I took up with the ranch hands and spend so much time workin’ outdoors.  *Raises a steely gaze*.  But, now that Ty’s in the picture, Pa wants me to spend more time in the house doing womanly things.

Linda – Would that be such a bad thing?

RF – Of course it would.  I don’t much care for cookin’ and cleanin’.  We have Cook for that.  I’d much rather brand a cow as fry one. HOST – So what about the romance part of the story?

RF – *Chews her bottom lip for a moment* I can’t tell you much more than I accompany Ty to a dance, but as usual, he gets my dander up there, too.  What happens from then on, you’ll have to find out for yourself.  I may look young and naïve, but I’m not silly enough to give away the whole story.  Besides, I’m trying to prove that I can keep my mouth shut when need be.  You’d be shocked at how many times I get myself in trouble because I don’t always think afore I speak.  Miz Ginger is counting on sales to help pay for a trip to something called an RT Conference next year.  I wouldn’t want to let her down.

Linda – I certainly wouldn’t want you to do that either.  You’ve given us enough of a teaser to stir some interest.  Hopefully we’ll see you on a best seller’s list somewhere.

RF – That would be right nice.  It just may happen cause remember, I have a gun.  *Slaps hip and fakes a draw*.

Linda –  Well, here’s hoping you don’t have to use it.  *laughs*.  Thank you so much, Ellie for being with us today.  And good luck in the future.

RF – Oh, yeah.  I almost forgot to tell you that where you can get your own copy of Ellie’s Legacy. You can find them on something called Internet at, *reaches in pocket and pulls out a slip of paper; reads it. “Miz Ginger’s author page is at http://www.amazon.com/author/gingersimpson and all her books are listed there.”image001

Linda – Thanks again, Ellie, and maybe we’ll see you again in another story.

Ginger is offering one lucky commenter a download of Ellie’s Legacy, so chat with Ellie to win!

sinners20 (2)Sinners’ Opera is geting fabulous reviews, and I’m happy dancing.  An author friend, Toni Sweeney, alerted me that VampireRomance Books had posted a powerful review on Goodreads and Amazon.

“Nightingale’s writing is beautiful and descriptive. I was mesmerized from the
start. The novel’s twists and turns are enough to keep readers engrossed as well
as the heights of emotion in which the story is conveyed. The sex scenes between
Morgan and Isabeau are sweet, delicious, and enthralling; I don’t think I could
ever get enough of them.

Sinners’ Opera was a delight to read, and I give
props to Nightingale for such a wonderful story. I have high hopes that it won’t
be long before we see Morgan and Isabeau again!”

For the full review and other reviews:  http://www.amazon.com/Sinners-Opera-ebook/dp/B00DIKLEH2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375619481&sr=8-1&keywords=Sinners+Opera

Sinners’ Opera is available in print and in ebook formats.

Also, if anyone knows where I can purchase this image, please let me know.  I REALLY want to use it for trading cards.  I think it represents the passion and obsession between Morgan and Isabeau.
