After getting blacklisted from the venture capital industry, twenty-nine-year-old Edward Vaughan will do anything to avoid telling his wife what happened. Even if it means agreeing to her dream of bicycling around the world. Kara, tired of being married to a workaholic, was readying for a divorce. Now, she’s packing bags of a different kind. Together, they pedal away from Seattle, headed east on the open road across America, Europe, and beyond.

Theirs is a decision that reverberates across centuries, shattering a continuum that bound their souls throughout time, and traps Edward in a battle with a past life over an eternal love.

As the miles roll by, and the couple’s sordid secrets begin to surface, the couple encounters several men plucked from history, each one a vessel of Edward’s soul in a prior life. Of them, a 19th century art dealer proves dangerous, believing Kara is his ticket back to the past.

Tailwinds Past Florence is a contemporary love story with a magical twist, landing readers in the saddle of a global bicycle adventure.

Read an Excerpt:

Kara clutched her chest as her breathing returned to normal. It was one thing not to know why he wasn’t at work, it was another for him to be hiding behind the door. What the hell, Edward. She bent to pick up her dropped keys. “You’re home.” It came out more statement than question.

“Long story. Why didn’t you cover your eyes?”

She raised her hands in answer. They held a gym bag, purse, keys, and an envelope she’d somehow forgotten about in the commotion. “You didn’t give me any time,” she said. Then, noticing the map—her map—and the champagne, asked, “What’s all this?”

“This,” he said, grinning like a schoolboy about to receive his first kiss, “is a change of plans.”

Her mouth fell open as she processed what she was hearing. Kara spent months asking him to take time off, hoping he’d see how important the trip was to her, practically begging. She tore the map down after the holidays, after diplomatic overtures had failed. She’d been holding a bomb ever since, delaying the inevitable. Now, with her self-imposed deadline having come and gone, he wanted to do it.

Today? You’ve got to be kidding me, she thought, clutching the envelope, dumbstruck.

“I thought you’d be excited.” His smile drooped.

“I … I am,” she stammered. “I think. You have to admit, it’s a lot to swallow.”

“You still want to go, right?”

Did she? It’d be an incredible adventure, a badge she’d wear the rest of her life. But, to Kara, cycling around the world was a means to an end. Her gaze drifted to the map, the promise held within its Sharpie itinerary. The promise of change, of resurrecting the man she married, her best friend and lover. For three years, it’d be just the two of them, reforging their bond against the anvil of the open road. And if her plan didn’t succeed, if he returned to his workaholic ways when it was over, she’d at least know she tried.

Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Princess Bride.

The second book in the trilogy, D’zia’s Dilemma features a disembodied galactic gangster, a snarky spybot, and a sentient, lovesick spaceship. If you like non-stop action, powerful emotions, and sensual aliens, you’ll love the next installment of An Alien Exchange.

A woman betrayed. An alien duke faced with an impossible decision. Can two lovers who long to be together overcome those determined to keep them apart?

Lora Dharma Callahan excitedly agrees to leave Earth to attend “The Exchange” and meet the alien mate of her dreams. Instead of finding true love, she’s forcibly kidnapped and held captive by an alien lunatic who plans to take over the galaxy. He’s going to use her to create a serum that will ultimately enslave every human female on Earth. But no emperor wannabe is going to keep this girl down. Lora will find a way to save not only herself, but her planet as well.

Duke D’zia Yaq E’etu, cousin to the crown prince of Zerin, suspects a malicious plot to overthrow the galactic government. When the opportunity arises to insinuate himself in the suspected traitor’s stronghold, he doesn’t hesitate to use his infiltration skills. While there, he encounters Lora, whom he soon recognizes as his TrueBond. The only problem…she’s imprisoned and scheduled for experiments that will destroy her.

Now D’zia has a hard choice to make. Should he stay and get the proof he needs to prevent a narcissistic megalomaniac from taking over the galactic government…or escape with the only female he can claim as his own?

Read an Excerpt

An eternity passed before Lora’s brain cells decided to come back online. Which wasn’t easy since D’zia had pulled her hips into his hard groin. Holy shamoka, was all of that for her? Wait, what did he say? Something about a JR10?

“D’zia.” She pulled her mouth away from his while her inner nasty girl screamed to keep going. “Don’t, I can’t think when you kiss me.” Her heartbeat was going crazy and it was hard to breathe.

Okay, take in a few deep gulps of air…yeah, now she was calm. Right. She put her hands on the sides of his face to place him farther back from her so she could gaze into his eyes. Feminine pride warmed her as she took in the dazed, unfocused stare he gave back. Lordy, those dual-colored orbs were beyond beautiful, especially dilated in passion. His wet, full lips were tempting, and she’d love to spend eternity bathing in the weight of his intense focus.

His three-fingered hands burrowed under her loose tunic to wrap around her naked waist, his palms massaged her eager skin in heavy strokes.

She jumped when warm oils under his hands caused a path of lightning to cover her skin wherever he caressed. A fleeting scent of spiced licorice teased her nose. She drew in a shuddering breath as she cleared her throat. “D’zia, please, let’s stop and think about this.”

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The authors will be awarding a 30 minute book marketing consultation to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Congratulations, indie author!

You’ve finished your book—now all that’s left is to get it out into the world. Unfortunately, for many authors, it’s that step of the process that’s the hardest. Marketing is seen as something to be feared, dreaded, and outsourced as much as possible—a daunting task that will leave you drained.

But fear not! The team at Wise Ink knows a thing or two about how to sell your book. And they’re here to tell you everything.

Buzz is the indie author’s ultimate guide to marketing effectively, inexpensively, and excitingly. Within its pages, you’ll find answers to the questions on every writer’s mind:

• What does it really mean to “market” my book?

• How do I best reach my specific audience?

• What are effective ways to promote my book via social media?

• Do I really need to be a public speaker?

In addition to this, the Wise Ink marketing team has provided sample content calendars, email promotions, a marketing starter kit, and more to ensure you’re prepared to get out there and sell your book.

Marketing doesn’t have to be a horror story! Let Buzz teach you how to take your book to its maximum potential.

Read an Excerpt:

How do I best reach my specific audience?

You will hear us say this over and over again, as it is one of the Ten Commandments of book publishing: Know thine audience!

Think carefully about your “ideal” reader. What do they do in their spare time? Where do they normally purchase things? Where do they go for information? And most importantly, what are some unique and organic ways to get your book and message in front of them?

Hopefully, by the time you begin marketing your book, you will have already thought through these things carefully. Still, it’s a good idea to refresh your memory. Also, be concrete in how you determine your market demographics. Go deeper than the standard questions around gender, age, education, and geographic location. Those are just places to start.

When describing your ideal reader, be specific with the details that matter, such as how much time they have to read, how they might use your book day-to-day, and how they generally make recommendations to others. Another thing to do is segment your readers into three specialized subgroups—communities that align with each reader’s professional identities and personal aspirations. This helps you dig even deeper into the psychology of how to sell your book smartly and where it makes the most sense to spend your time. As an example: To market your business book, you might segment your readers into millennials and recent grads, aspiring entrepreneurs, and motivational speakers. If you’ve just published a sci-fi thriller, your subgroups might include fans of the popular sci-fi series Black Mirror, sci-fi writers who frequent fan-fiction sites, and people who attend conventions like WorldCon.

How does your ideal reader obtain information? Blogs? Magazines? Newspapers? Ads? What social media sites do they frequent? Be as specific as you can here. These are the places you will want to target in terms of marketing.

Where does your ideal reader shop? Think beyond bookstores. Are they frequent travelers? (Maybe they shop in airports a lot.) Do they have stores they tend to gravitate toward? Make a list of these places, and find connections there to share your book with.

Infamy by Seelie Kay

INFAMY by Seelie Kay, a romantic suspense from Extasy Books

3 Flames, heat rating

An Interview with Seelie Kay:

 Why do you write romance?

Because I am fascinated by the games people play to find and secure a lasting relationship, which is not always love. There’s the chase, the courtship, the falling, the surrender. That’s what I try to capture in my stories.

Do you prefer a certain type of romantic hero?

I adore smart, dashing gentlemen who aren’t afraid to live on the edge. They can be a bad boy, a billionaire, a prince, or a secret agent. That hint of danger just hooks me! However, I also love strong, independent women who aren’t afraid to fight for what they want, even love.

 Why did you write “Infamy?”

The characters featured in this story—Sheikh Harun Ali and his wife, Marianne Benson–are both lawyers who focus on international law and their practice is devoted to compensating the victims of terrorism. So I was looking for a new hook, something on the horizon that could pose a serious threat to the world and in particular, the United States. I found it in an article on advances in “cloaking” technology or making planes disappear. For years, we have had stealth planes that do not appear on radar, but can be seen in the air if anyone is looking. I wanted to take that a step further: What if someone created a means to actually cloak a plane and hide it from everyone’s view? What if that technology fell into the hands of terrorists? And “Infamy” was born.

How does your former profession as a lawyer impact your writing?

After 30 years, the law and the legal world are so firmly embedded in my brain that I can’t flush them out. That has become the lens through which I view the world and that naturally guides my characters and plots. Little peculiarities that I have witnessed in lawyers and the law always work their way into my stories.

Any plans to write outside the romance genre completely?

Actually, I ghostwrite non-fiction for other professionals—doctors, lawyers, financial gurus—so I dip my toes into a lot of different genres. However, I have been itching to write a book about a relative who founded a religious cult. I researched it for years and found a lot of information that had been buried. I have a pile of paper a foot high. Someday, I need to go through it carefully and start writing. I have the interest, just not the time.

Blurb:

Infamy. An evil or wicked act. Terrorists bent on revenge have found a way to make planes disappear from the sky, without a trace. And when one winds up buried in a Wisconsin cornfield, it’s a race against time to rescue the passengers from certain death.

When international law attorney Sheikh Harun Ali is lured to the Amazon and warned of a frightening plot against the United States, he and his wife, Marianne Benson, enlist the assistance of their neighbors, covert agent Cade Matthews and his wife, Constitutional Law Professor Janet MacLachlan. Ultimately, these feisty lawyers are pushed to the wall, desperate to find a plane that has been buried in an unknown cornfield, the passengers still on board. The terrorists’ hatred for the Alis is absolute—the Alis once left their organization bankrupt and broken—but they hate America more. And their fiendish games are just beginning. They are seeking a much bigger prize, one that could destroy a nation and possibly the world. An act that will live in infamy.

Excerpt:

Cade grasped his water bottle with both hands. “Before his brother died, he said eight words.”

Harun nodded. “They are going to make American planes disappear.”

Dianna’s eyes grew wide.

Anders rubbed a hand over his face, then through his long dark hair. His deep green eyes stared up at the ceiling of the plane. “Fucking hell. Nine-eleven all over again.”

“That is our fear,” Harun said. “However, so many precautionary measures are in place in this country, simply hijacking planes and flying them into buildings is no longer easy. They must have a different plan.”

Cade emitted a heavy sigh. “And that is what we need to figure out. What exactly do those eight words mean? For example, he did not specify that the planes would disappear in America, which could mean that they will disappear abroad or over oceans.”

Anders sat up straight. “And disappear could mean many things. Crash. Hijack. Pull a Malaysia. How many ways can you make a plane disappear?”

Read Aloud and Prequel to Sinners’ Opera

Author works in progress, book series, new books, prequel, vampire, WIP

You may already know, but I just discovered the Read Aloud feature in Word.  It reads Word text aloud to you.  Read Aloud is found under Review, Read Aloud on the task ribbon. The voice is pleasant, doesn’t sound like a robot, and rarely makes a mistake. It is a man’s voice.

That said, I have been listening to the prequel to Sinners’ Opera which is Sinners’ Waltz.  Here’s the part I’m questioning since it is from a child’s POV, even though he is precocious.  Please tell me what you think.

Devon, England, 1639

There must have been some poetic justice that I left in the Spring, but I was too distraught and too young to appreciate it.

“Ilsabeth, it’s time.” My father stood tall and straight, his face impassive. “He must go.”

My mother held my hand tightly, as if she could stop time in its tracks. “Surely, not so soon.”

“The coach is ready. My darling-dear, you must let go of his hand.” My father glanced at me, his brown eyes showing the emotion he could not. He extended his hand. “Morgan, come.” He shot a look behind me at John, my manservant who would accompany me to court.

I looked up at my mother, she down at me, and there were tears in her eyes. My eyes stung, my throat closing on the effort not to cry. If one tear rolled down her cheek, I’d be lost and beg them not to send me away.

“You’ll enjoy the companionship of the young princes,” my father was saying. “Charles is a year or so older and James younger, but you should make fast friends.”

Mother bent, took me in her arms and kissed me, then held me back to study me. She was crying. “Send word if you are too unhappy.”

A sob caught in my throat. “Yes, Mother.”

Father gestured me toward the massive doors, and I went, though another piece broke off my heart at each step. With a hand on my shoulder, he ushered me outside, my mother following as if an invisible chord bound us all. Father stopped beside the carriage. My gaze fell on the St. Averil crest painted in gold on the black lacquered coach. My heart plunged. I wished I were the blacksmith’s son. But for that symbol, I wouldn’t be sent from home at five years old.

The day was fine and warm with a layer of ruffled clouds. I was terrified of what lay ahead. I’d never spent a night away from home. I would miss my pony and seeing pretty Agatha, picking wildflowers. I liked to think of her as my girlfriend though she was older and the smithy’s daughter.

In a lovely dress of white with blue ribbons, my mother was incredibly beautiful. She smiled down at me and smoothed my hair, the same color as hers. The wind tossed strands of her long tresses, golden in the sunlight, across her face. Tears sparkled in her blue eyes. Beneath my velvet coat, my heart thudded a dull farewell. Mother and Father looked quite calm. In a sickly rush, I wondered if they’d miss me. Perhaps, once they were adults, no heart was left in them.

My mother and I had been often together—she’d taught me music and the love of books. My father had given me the love of horses.

I didn’t cry until the coach rounded a curve in the drive, and I could no longer see her. My governor chided me for tears, saying that a young nobleman did not weep.

****

I settled into Court life far more quickly and with more joy than I’d expected. My father and the King were friends, and, alongside the young princes I was taught to Related imageri

ride, to yield a sword and learned Greek, Latin and my letters.

Since 1638, Prince Charles had maintained his own household with both a governor in the person of the Earl of Newcastle and a tutor, Dr. Brian Duppa. Although Newcastle had resigned his charge as Governor at about the same time as Stafford’s execution, Charles still received the master’s tutelage in matters of horsemanship.  At length, through the devices of my cousin, I was installed as a page to Prince Charles. This pleased me even more than it did my family, but not for the same reasons. I personally liked the boy who was the Prince of Wales, but the proximity of the Earl of Newcastle, a lover of sport and an authority on horsemanship, gave me the greatest delight.

All these many centuries later, one memory stays with me. I was about seven years old; Charles older and James younger. Waiting in the stable yard for our horses to be brought round, we were a bit high-spirited. Sir William Cavendish, the Duke of Newcastle and our Master of the Horse, chastised us, singling me out as an example. He was a renowned horseman, and I lived on his every word. My father had given me the gift that stays with you your entire life. The Duke of Newcastle was to refine the love of horses to an art.

“Morgan, you should conserve my energy. Likely, you’ll need it. Today, you ride Devilish.” He clapped me on the back.

The black pony was known for a wicked sense of humor. His antics for unseating his rider made him famous around the stables. Often, the Duke himself had to adjust Devilish’s outlook. Though he wasn’t a large pony, what he lacked in size he made up for in attitude.

“Yes, Sir William.” I watched the groom lead the black pony toward me, excited at the challenge, but a trifle apprehensive. Quickly, I wiped my damp palms on my breeches. The Duke must think me skilled enough to ride Devilish. The thought inspired a surge of pride. Or want to see me taken down from my high horse, literally.

Charles shot me a look and grinned, his expression as wicked as Devilish’s reputation. “Ride well, my friend. When that black pony puts your arse on the ground, it’s a long walk back to the stables.”

“I’ll come to your aid,” Prince James offered.

“Ha,” Charles snorted. “As if you were a pretty wench, I’ll rescue you.”

“What makes any of you think I’m coming off.” I strung the pony’s reins over his head.

Sir William smiled, and a little shiver chased down my spine. Did he expect me to be unseated? The thought was daunting to say the least.

Early on the misty morning, we trotted from the stable yard, riding four-abreast over the parklands. Charles was mounted on his Snowball, James on his deep bay named Russet, and I on the little black powder keg. Charles was accomplished, James fair, but I excelled in the saddle, or so Newcastle indicated to me subtly and alone. The Princes must be made to feel champions of the sport.

Charles and I had ridden a little ahead. Sir William was chatting with James, but he possessed the ability to see everything, even when he wasn’t looking. The Prince urged his pony into a canter, and I followed, drawing alongside on Devilish.

“What say we race to that copse of trees?” He motioned to the neatly-groomed oaks ahead.

“You’re on,” I nodded and smiled.

His white pony, seeing my mount at his shoulder, grabbed the bit, ducked his head and bucked once before lunging into a dead run, almost unseating his rider. The Prince righted himself in the saddle and attempted to stop his runaway. Again, Snowball threw his head down and blocked Charles’ efforts. He thundered on.

“Ho there, Morgan,” Charles shouted. “Snowball has bolted.”

About Only A Good Man Will Do:

Seriously ambitious man seeks woman to encourage his goals, support his (hopeful) position as Headmaster of Westover Academy, and be purer than Caesar’s wife. Good luck with that!

Daniel Goodman is a man on a mission. For years he has striven for perfection, fighting for the pinnacle achievement in his world of academia, Headmaster of Westover Academy. Westover, established before the American Revolution, is still one of the most prestigious schools in the country. They accept only boys whose parents fit a certain mold and only those teachers who hold to a stringent set of mores, on and off campus. Jonah considers his brother a prig. Daniel sees himself as doing his best to serve his students. How much better can he serve them as headmaster? That is what he seeks to find out.

Suddenly, into his cut and dried, strictly black and white life of moral and upright behavior, comes Eve Star, formerly one of Europe’s foremost exotic dancers. Her life is anything but cut and dried, black and white. Bad enough that she’s enrolled her son in Westover Academy under false pretenses. More, she runs the town’s most disreputable bar. Worst, much to Daniel’s dismay, he finds himself drawn to her like a kid to chocolate. Nothing good can come of this attraction. Or can it? He is after all, a good man.

Excerpt:

“Daniel, am I talking to myself, here?”

“Oh, no, I’m…” He chuckled an amused admission. “Tell me what you said again.”

He could almost hear Eve smile. “I said, you called at four-thirty on Saturday and Sunday, so I took a wild leap that you would today, too.”

“Ah.” Smiling to the empty room, he squirmed to get into a more comfortable position. “A woman of logic.”

“Absolutely. You don’t want to play me in chess. I think five or six moves ahead.”

“I’ll remember that. There’s nothing worse than seeing a guy cry when he’s been beaten at chess by a girl.”

Join Delmar and Tiara in Book II of the Mistress of Desire and the Orchid Lover on their sensually sizzling action-packed adventure!

Read an Excerpt:

Delmar’s voice was sad and serious. “I come to ask the three of you for your help. I have nowhere else to turn. The courts won’t help me. The legal system is useless,” his words tumbled out. “You see, for it was I, who started my problem in the first place, and well the courts won’t even hear my case,” he sighed heavily.

Glenda sighed. “This sounds serious if you can’t use your money to persuade the courts.”

“It is serious,” Delmar assured them. “Let me go back to the beginning. Perhaps you were aware of my case in court almost a year ago, concerning the twin sons, that Tiara Blake, had?”

“Yes, of course, it was all over the news,” Consuelo stated, in an excited Spanish accent.

“Yeah, I heard all about it too,” Nona said glumly. “The DNA found you were not the father and those tests are normally 100% accurate.”

“Yes, they are supposed to be. But there are ways around them,” Delmar paused. “You see a root worker, a spell caster. She assured me, that she could cast a spell that would exclude me as the father of the twins.”

Glenda interrupted. “Yes, but everyone knows that DNA is 100 percent foolproof and it doesn’t lie. No spellcaster or root worker can mess with biological DNA.”

“Glenda is right,” Nona stated. “DNA tests are considered infallible – they are the gold standard in court.”

My WIP – Yesterday’s Angel

angels, author WIP, Azazel, fantasy romance, futuristic romance, paranormal romance, The Wild Rose Press

The book was originally called I, Azazel, and it is part of the Gylded Wings series.  The first book in the series is Gylded Wings. Available here. Gylded Wings is also available in audio.

So, since this post is about Yesterday’s Angel, here is the draft of the beginning:

As with most of my adventures, the most important of my life started innocently enough.

I’d been feeling a bit lonely, tired of staring at the four walls, and decided to go out and about in Sin City—Viva Las Vegas.  I took a short cut through a back alley and happened upon a human tragedy in progress. Gun drawn, a street kid had cornered an old man between a dumpster and a brick wall, adorned with lurid red graffiti announcing the end of the world. By the prophet’s reckoning, the event had occurred yesterday.

“Good evening, Junior-G, my name is Azazel. Drop your weapon, put your hands above your head, and turn around slowly.”  My voice was calm and gritty, a fair imitation of my favorite actor from the Old West.  I was tempted to add, or I’ll twitch my nose and your cock will fall off, but that might get the old man shot.

The kid whirled, his weapon leveled at my chest, and fired.  The acrid scent of the gun’s discharge stung my nostrils, but I held my ground. The bullet sped toward me, spun ninety-degrees. Like a heat-seeking missile, it honed in on its target, the youngster holding the gun.  Junior’s jaw dropped, his eyes wide enough to pop from his head.  At the last instant, the bullet veered right and struck the dumpster with metallic thunder. The kid hung suspended from the invisible strings preventing his jeans from drooping below his knees.

The bad ass rocked up and down on his heels.  “What the fuck—”

“Mind your tongue, Junior.”  Cool, confident, I strolled across the filthy concrete.

He gave me a tough guy stare, but the hand holding the gun trembled.  Effort pinched his face.  Understanding what had just happened stretched his intellect.  He was fast becoming a nervous teenager in street clothes.  Baggy jeans rode low, showing red briefs.  Combat boots.  Bleached skulls stacked on his black t-shirt.  Junior was too shocked, and I moved too fast, grabbing the gun from his frozen fingers and using it to wave him along.

“Run home now, J.G.  Your Mama’s cooking turnip greens and cornbread.”  My smile was benevolent, but my eyes sparkled dangerous.  “Remember, if you ever harm a woman, a child, or the elderly, I’ll know and…” I could no longer resist and wagged a finger in his face. “I’ll twitch my nose, and your cock will fall off.”

“Shit man, what you talking about?”  The kid did one of those bag of rags shuffles like a scarecrow with the stuffing knocked out.

“You know I turned the bullet midair.  With no more than a careless thought, I could cause a vein in your head to rupture.  You’d be dead before you hit the ground.  Creating a cock-less wonder is,” I snapped my fingers, “that easy. Shall I prove it?”

He must have found one functioning brain cell. “You’re one crazy mo-fro.”  And then another synapse randomly fired, and he clutched his groin. “How’d you know my name?”

“I was holding your mother’s hand the day you were born.”  A priest in denim, I signed the cross.  “Go, and sin no more.”

He puffed up his chest, narrowed his eyes, and shot me another gangster look.

I leaned forward and snapped my fingers. “Boo.”

Hitching up his pants, he ran blind, his head twisted at an odd angle to watch me over his shoulder.  His cap flew off, and hair as long as mine spilled down his back.  An alley cat, disturbed by the pitter-patter of his scared little feet, screeched.

***

That’s part of the first chapter.  I hope you will be looking for this book in the future.  It is totally in the draft stage and much later will go to my editor for judgment.  I hope Yesterday’s Angel has a future!

Bianca Swasm, books about brother/sister incest, erotic romance. book about incest, Lot's Cave Publishing, sci-fi erotic romance

Blurb:

A brother finds his sister to be the most desirable woman in his life.  Asher and Lily dance around committing the forbidden act while their need for each other grows. Again and again, they narrowly escape being caught  but once they have begun their passionate affair, they can’t stop. When his mother tells Asher a  secret about his birth, he must  choose between his legacy and Lily.

Excerpt:

I smiled, studying her as if she were some long-lost treasure.  She gazed into my eyes.  I couldn’t look away. Or simply didn’t want to—ever.

She stroked my hair, and a sleepy arousal awakened. I ran both hands through my hair, elongating my body, teasing her as she teased me with her flirty gestures.  Her gaze drifted over me from my chest down my body, up my legs to linger on my cock, sculpted in denim.

“Look at me, Asher. It feels so good when you look at me like that.” Dangerously seductive, but oh how I loved it and wanted her.

With a hot gaze, she stripped her t-shirt dress over her head and stood naked, beautiful for me to worship. Her breasts were high and firm. From her slender waist, her hips flared in a sexy curve. Her legs were long and silky. I remembered them locked around me, and my cock hardened.

Raw animal magnetism sizzled between us. If we’d wanted to stop, I’m not sure we could have. Only the sound of the door would halt my forward advance.

I held her gaze as I walked slowly toward her. “I’m coming to claim you.”

When I arrived, it seemed I’d made the longest but sweetest journey of a lifetime. I laid my hands on her shoulders but didn’t yet try to kiss her. There was so much I wanted to say before we made love, but her tremor of acceptance sent electricity zinging through me. I shed my t-shirt and jeans, joining her dress in a colorful spill. She ran her hands beneath her tits and pointed the hard nipples at me. Her lower lip  quivered, but I didn’t sense any reluctance in her stance or her smile. I looked down at the solid bar of flesh standing at attention between us. She winked, stepped close, took my cock in her hand, messaging it gently.

“Are you happy?” I whispered.

“Very.” She locked her arms around my neck…

A picture tells a story. But is it the truth?

When the police find pictures of Melanie hanging up at her murdered colleague’s house, they’re convinced he was stalking her. Maybe she even killed him. Melanie was not being stalked! And she certainly didn’t kill her supposed stalker – as if. But Mel – always up for a bit of drama – jumps at the chance to go search for the real killer. When Mel’s ex-boyfriend, Owen, discovers her plans, he pulls out all the stops to ensure she’s safe and to win her back. No matter what happens with the murder investigation, he’s not letting her go. With the police setting their sights on Mel, he may need to jeopardize his own career on the police force to protect her.

Will Mel find the real killer before the detectives arrest her for murder?

Read an Excerpt:

“Ms. Hanson, please have a seat.” Detective Meyer motioned to a chair before setting a bottle of water on the table in front of it. Then, he sat down and placed a file on the table in front of him. His partner remained standing in the corner of the room near the door. Mel started to stomp her way to the chair before remembering someone was probably watching and recording whatever she did and said in the room. She firmed her jaw before slowly walking to the chair and sitting down.

She took a few gulps of water before asking, “Is this where you finally tell me what’s going on?”

Instead of answering her question, the detective pulled a picture out of the file and put it on the table in front of her. “Do you know this man?”

Mel picked up the picture. “Sure. It’s Alfred Schultz. He’s a social sciences teacher at the high school where I’m a guidance counselor.” She handed the picture back to the detective. “Why?”

Again, he ignored her. He pulled out a series of pictures and laid them on the table in front of her. Mel looked down and gasped at what she saw. Every single picture was of her. “What in the world are you doing with these? What is going on?”

“These are pictures we found in Mr. Schultz’s apartment.”

“What?” Why would Alfred have pictures of her in his apartment? They weren’t friends. Was he following her? She shivered. The man’s creepiness level just skyrocketed. “What’s going on?”

“That’s what we’d like to know,” Detective Davis replied from her position leaning against the wall.

Mel’s hands shook as she gathered the pictures together and handed them back to the detective. She needed to calm down. Freaking out wouldn’t get her any answers. She forced herself to remember her yoga training. Calming breaths. She could do this. Deep breath in through the nose. Exhale through the mouth. Again. Breathe in. Breathe out.

“What was your relationship with Mr. Schultz?”

“We don’t really have a relationship. We’re colleagues. He’d like more, but …” she trailed off. Wait a second! Her mind rewound on his words. “Was? Did you say was?” She gulped. “What happened?”

“Mr. Schultz was found dead in his home yes—” His words were cut off by Detective Davis clearing her throat.

Mel gasped. “Found dead? Is that cop-speak for murdered?” At the detective’s nod, her mouth dropped open. “How? Why? Who?”

“We were hoping you could answer those questions for us,” Detective Davis answered. She was no longer casually leaning against the wall but now stood with her arms crossed over her chest staring down at Melanie.

“Me? Why would I be able to answer those questions for you?” In response, Davis merely tilted her head towards the pictures.

The pieces of the puzzle clicked together, and she finally realized what was going on. She jumped from her chair. “Holy moly! You think I had something to do with his death!”

About the Author:

I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom’s Harlequin romances, to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic before returning to the law. But practicing law really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out running a B&B wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where, in between tennis matches and failing to save the world, I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Picture Not Perfect is my fourteenth novel.
