No, I’m not doing a tutorial on how to speak Southern. 🙂
This is an author interview with AMB Review. So, may I introduce myself? Without further adieu, here I am.
Hello…Alicia Dean here. Myself and twelve other authors (13 total, get it? 😊) each wrote a spooky, suspenseful story in the ‘A Friday the 13th Story’ series. They are stand-alone but have recurring threads and they were all released on Friday, November 13th.
My contribution to the series is titled Blood and Breakfast. Check it out below. And be sure to check out my contest where you can win an Amazon gift card! Find details here:

I was plotting my story and trying to figure out why a normal family man would suddenly snap and murder his family. I realized that hallucinations could cause people to do crazy things, so I researched what could make people hallucinate. I discovered that the plant, jimson weed, can cause serious hallucinations. I also wanted to incorporate some kind of an authentic local legend in my story, so I researched legends in various states and came across the Devil’s Footrock in Rhode Island. I was able to mesh the two–jimson weed and the Devil’s Footrock–to come up with how the husband/father in my story lost his mind and killed his family. It’s so much fun when ideas click and make a story come together. Here’s a photo of Devil’s Foot Rock:

Determined to boost the sagging ratings of her internet radio show, “A Dark Place,” murder junkie Sasha Gillette checks into the Talley House Bed and Breakfast in North Kingston, Rhode Island. She and her co-host plan to broadcast an episode about the murders that took place there thirteen years earlier on a Friday the 13th, when a man butchered his entire family.
Not long after Sasha arrives, the other guests begin to disappear. Has a killer from the past resurfaced or is there a copycat on the loose?
One of the lone survivors, Sasha finds herself trapped with a sadistic killer and, suddenly, murder isn’t as much fun as she thought.
“I’m going to look for her. It’s not okay that she’s been gone for hours when she said she’d be back in thirty minutes. Do you know where she was taking her walk?”
“I-in the woods.”
“Well, of course she was,” I muttered. “Agnes, do you have a flashlight I can borrow? And maybe something I can use for a weapon?”
Agnes nodded. “I’ll get you a flashlight. I have a hammer.”
Dorset rose as well. “I’ll go with you.” He cut his gaze to Bradley, but the dufus just sat there without volunteering to help. “Nothing, old chap? Not going to offer to come along?”
“I should stay here in case she comes back,” Bradley murmured but he didn’t look at them. Was he afraid…or feeling guilty?
I shivered when we stepped outside, drawing my hoodie tighter around my body. The nearly half full moon hovered in the cloudy sky behind the branches of a Tulip tree. Lightning flashed, illuminating the back yard. The icy air held the scent of rain.
“We need to hurry,” I told Dorset. “It looks like it might storm.”
He nodded. “I’d say let’s split up to cover more ground, but with one flashlight and hammer, and with the odd happenings lately, maybe we should stick together.”
“Agreed.” My teeth chattered, though it wasn’t all that cold.
We walked along the wood line, shouting for Macy, shining the flashlight between the trees. Nothing. As if by mutual agreement, we entered the woods. I shuddered, not only concerned about a potential maniac, but also leery of whatever creatures might be scurrying around at my feet. I was a city girl and didn’t even own a pet. I was not okay with encountering an animal, of any kind.
We searched for another half hour with no sign of Macy. We were deep into the woods when the sky opened up and doused us with buckets of rain. Thunder rumbled and more lightning flashed. We gave up and hurried back to the house.
The others were waiting for us.
“Anything?” Bradley asked, his voice high-pitched with anxiety. He seemed much more concerned about Macy than he had been about his wife.
“Not a sign,” I said. “We need to call the police.”
“I did.” Agnes was seated in the forest green wing chair in the corner of the library. “They took the information but said she’s an adult and can leave any time she wants.”
She rose. “We waited dinner for you. Let’s eat.”
A pall hung over the room as we ate in silence, the air thick with fear and confusion.
Afterward, I excused myself and headed upstairs, anxiety weighing on me. I had an overwhelming feeling that I wouldn’t sleep a wink. Nor would anyone else.

Alicia Dean began writing stories as a child. At age 10, she wrote her first ever romance (featuring a hero who looked just like Elvis Presley, and who shared the name of Elvis’ character in the movie, Tickle Me), and she still has the tattered, pencil-written copy. Alicia is from Moore, Oklahoma and now lives in Edmond. She has three grown children and a huge network of supportive friends and family. She writes mostly contemporary suspense and paranormal, but has also written in other genres, including a few vintage historicals.
Other than reading and writing, her passions are Elvis Presley (she almost always works in a mention of him into her stories) and watching (and rewatching) her favorite televisions shows like Ozark, Dexter, Justified, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, and Vampire Diaries. Some of her favorite authors are Michael Connelly, Dennis Lehane, Stephen King, Lee Child, Lisa Gardner, Ridley Pearson, Joseph Finder, and Jonathan Kellerman…to name a few.

Just his luck, alien-hybrid Ben Duncan is the only one for the job. Being an empath and a financial wizard, he’s called in to uncover an essential ally at a small regional bank in Vegas to thwart a plot his alien ancestors, the Akurns, seemed to have started there. If their heinous plans are successful, the global economy would crash and weaken mankind for their invasion in less than five short months. When Ben arrives at his assignment as a covert consultant, he meets the intriguing Julienne and is instantly alarmed at the intense attraction he has for her. He’d love to indulge in his obsession with the delectable woman, but knows he has no choice but to stay as far away from her as possible. The fate of billions don’t leave time for anything personal.
As senior vice-president, Julienne King leads a stressful life immersed in organizing a huge merger for a local bank in Vegas. And meeting some arrogant, hotter-than-hell, aloof outside consultant makes things worse. When she stumbles on an insidious money laundering scheme that threatens the global economy, she’s caught and kidnapped by one of her hateful bosses. While in captivity, she’s threatened with alien experimentation, death, or both. But what shocks her the most is it turns out she may not be who or what she thought she was.
Now it’s a race against time. Can a banker and an alien-hybrid overcome their misconceptions and to not only work together, but to realize their love is the key to mankind’s salvation?

Julienne took a step back to put some distance between them. It didn’t help.
Ben’s lips turned up at the ends but his well-built arms hung loose at his side. Now her mouth dried. This was the first time she’d seen him without a suit. His dark T-shirt molded lovingly to his taut frame. She gave herself a mental head slap and struggled to pull her gaze away from his chest. “What are you doing here?” She coughed. Damn frog in her throat was in the way.
The skin at the edge of his blue eyes crinkled before he strolled past without answering. He opened the door and poked his head out before leaving the small closet.
Dammit! She stomped her foot before following the exasperating man. She almost plowed into his back when he stopped.
He turned to face her. He was in the shadows and she couldn’t see his expression. When he said nothing, she put her fists on hips. “Excuse me, you didn’t answer my question. What are you doing here?”
“Apparently I’m saving your sweet self.” His smile widened. “And what, may I ask, are you doing here? Find anything interesting?”
Her nose rose a notch. “Yes, damn it!” She flung an arm to the wall that Bernie disappeared through. “What in the hell just happened? How did Bernie create a mirror that wasn’t there, walk through it and then vanish?”
“Are you sure that’s what you saw?”
She gritted her teeth as a slow, burning heat crept up her neck.
About the Author:
Keri Kruspe, award-winning “Author of Otherworldly Romantic Adventures” loves nothing more than to write about romances that feature “feisty heroines who aren’t afraid to take a chance on life… or love”. Her writing career started when she became irritated that most SciFi romances had women kidnapped before they could find love. Determined to create something different, she turned “the alien kidnapping trope upside down” (Vine Voice) and the ALIEN EXCHANGE trilogy was born.
Keri’s latest SciFi Romance novel, ALIEN LEGACY: THE EMPATH, is the first in a five-book series of the Ancient Alien Descendants, taking the Ancient Alien motif and mixing it with a sensual, romantic twist.
A native Nevadan, Keri is a lifelong avid reader who lives in Northwestern Michigan with her hubby and the newest member of the family, a Jack Russell Terrier named Hestia. When not immersed in her made-up worlds, she enjoys discovering the fascinating landscape of her new home and pairing red wine with healthy ways to cook. Most of all, she loves finding her next favorite author.
If you want to know when Keri’s next book will come out, please visit her website at http:/kerikruspe.com, where you can sign up for her mailing list. You’ll get a FREE copy of the novella, The Day Behind Tomorrow that is a prologue to the ALIEN LEGACY series. Not to mention being kept updated on the life of a dedicated, obsessed author.

GENRE: Paranormal Romantic Suspense
All he wants is to find a killer…
FBI Special Agent Josh Blake has seen some bizarre cases in his day. His latest case is one for the record books. He has multiple homicides, corpses drained of every ounce of blood, and no suspects. When rumors surface that the French Quarter may be hiding an insidious monster bent on drenching the streets in dead bodies, he must suspend logic and place his trust in the mystical.
She wants a fresh start…
Isabelle Toussánt left her family home in the bayou five year ago, cutting all ties with her abusive whiskey swilling stepfather, to forge a new life in the French Quarter. Now a successful business owner of Madam Toussánt’s Mystical Gifts in Jackson Square, and a Seer with voodoo roots. The foundation of her new life shatters when one of her employee’s winds up dead and she is dragged into a deadly game where she becomes the target of a serial killer.
A passion neither expected…
etermined to stop the brutal slayings, Josh must rely on the beautiful Isabelle who makes him question everything he has ever known about life and death all while surrendering to a desire hotter than a Bayou night. When Isabelle disappears without a trace, with tourists flocking to the party capital for Halloween, and the body count continues to mount, Josh will be forced to push beyond the boundaries of what he thinks is possible and rescue the woman he loves before it’s too late.
“Miss Toussánt.” Captain Tremayne addressed her above the din and chaos.
She swung around, her long dark hair, the silky wave of it, shimmering and rippling as she faced the captain. Josh took one look at Miss Isabelle Toussánt and felt like a thoroughbred had just kicked him in the stomach.
She was exotic, with caramel skin and looking taut and lean in her formfitting tank that displayed delicate arms. He sucked in a sharp breath when she glanced at the captain. Cat eyes. The mahogany color reminded Josh of his chestnut mare as a child, Daisy. They were framed by black brows. One of them was currently raised in his direction as she spoke to the captain.
“Yes, Captain Tremayne? Can I interest you in a cup of coffee?” Her voice reminded him of a shot of smooth, single malt whiskey.
“Miss Toussánt, this is Agent Josh Blake with the FBI. He has some questions, if you’re up for them.”
A wounded shadow passed through her magnetic eyes for a moment before she shifted her gaze toward him. The unabridged effect of her stare was electric and compelling, until he found himself immersed in her eyes. Unexpected lust zinged along his spine, not that he would give in to the temptation she presented, but his body resonated with the siren’s call her body echoed.
“Agent, can I interest you in some coffee?” She held up a glass carafe of steaming brew, already half empty.
“Not right now, Miss Toussánt. Thank you for the offer, though,” he murmured gently but firmly. It smelled like heaven, but he didn’t want to coddle her. She needed to understand he was in charge and would dig into her background no matter how sweetly her hips swished as she walked.
“Please call me Isabelle,” she offered with a slight smile, but it didn’t spread to her eyes. No amount of coffee or alcohol would erase the vision of death. He knew what that first time was like, though, the horror of it, the way it twisted your insides. Seeing for the first time how fragile life truly was made you face your own mortality. And, more important, you began to understand that some individuals just wanted to watch the world burn.
“Is there somewhere we can talk privately?” he asked, assessing her response, both verbal and non-verbal, ignoring the intense desire churning in his gut as he studied her. If there was one thing Miss Toussánt was, it was off-limits. It didn’t matter how long it had been since he’d done the horizontal tango. If there was one thing he was strictly by the book on, it was that he never blurred the lines in a case. The evidence either convicted a person or set them free. As it was, she was a witness to a horrific murder, possibly more.
There was something off about her that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. The way her eyes darted nervously around, and she kept wetting her pouty bottom lip. It could be signs of trauma and shock from discovering the body, or it could be she was hiding something. Perhaps she’d witnessed the incident and feared the killer would come back for her if he knew.
“Certainly, follow me.” Isabelle returned the carafe to the coffeemaker, wiped her palms along her skirt and nodded toward a doorway in the far corner.
He would have followed her into hell if it meant listening to her sultry voice some more and siphoning whatever information she had on this case.

A shifter and a human together? Unimaginable…
One careless decision. The colony betrayed. Tanen’s only course is a desperate hunt for justice, but his solo mission is cut short when he’s mortally wounded. Rescued by a sweet, innocent woman, he can’t deny the passion that burns between them. Now he must choose between his duty and honor or his desire for the precious, but forbidden, human female.
Broken promises and ruined love hardened Sheri’s heart. When she finds an injured and extraordinarily sexy man on her property, she’s pulled into a world she never imagined. As she nurses him back to health and they bond over their love of books, she’s torn between the lessons she learned from her rough past and the need to seek solace in Tanen’s arms, but she must learn to trust him, and herself, in order to survive.
Sheri’s pulse raced as a strange mixture of shock and desire coursed through her veins. The tall, muscular stranger pinned her against the wall. One second she’d pressed 9-1—on her phone and the next, she was here, in his arms.
His biceps bulged, and she had a sudden urge to run her fingers over them, feel the steel that was below the surface, but her hands were trapped at his hips. She gripped his taut waist, and his heat bore into her, warming her fingers, tingling the sensitive nerves. Although caged in his embrace, he was gentle with her, holding back the strength that ebbed from him in waves. As he leaned in, his breath cascaded over her shoulder, warm and enticing.
“No infirmary.” His gravelly, rough command came out on a whisper.
She should’ve feared him, this stranger in her home trapping her in his arms, but instead, her insides melted, warmed by his touch, his voice, his scent. Something about him made her long for more.
So focused on the man who held her so close, she hadn’t noticed Coop. His insistent barks echoed through the house.
The man tensed, and in the process his lean body pressed tighter against hers. Her skin prickled at the contact.
With a quick glance over his shoulder, she caught sight of her pet. He growled, his lips curled over his fangs.
“No, Coop. Stop!”
His back legs bunched in preparation for his attack.
The man didn’t release her, but turned to face her dog. He held out one hand, palm open. “Halt.”
Coop’s growl faded.
He took a tentative step forward.
His nose quivered, and a small whimper eased from his chest. Her pet, an ex-police dog trained to track and defend, placed his muzzle under the stranger’s palm.
She gasped. If she hadn’t seen this for herself, she wouldn’t have believed it. He patted Coop on the head, and the dog’s tail beat against the floor.
The man’s eyes were red-rimmed, and sweat coated his forehead. “I have to leave…”
His eyes glazed over, and his grip around her waist loosened.
As her hands traveled along the space between them, her fingers trailed over the firm muscles of his abdomen and chest. The strength and power under his skin lit up her nerves. She moved a stray hair away from his brow and focused on his eyes. Bottomless pools of blue, they reflected the pain hidden behind his features.
Her chest constricted. “Please, let me help you.”
His gaze fell to her mouth, and he reached up to stroke her bottom lip with his thumb, teasing her. “How? Like this?”
Before she could stop him, he slipped his hand around the base of her neck and pulled her close.

The Marcy Series, which at this point includes: Rage, Confusion, Agony & Ecstasy, The Agreement, and The Past Returns, is a continuing story. It is a story about three people and how their lives intertwine. There are other characters involved with the three, but the focus remains on them throughout the entire series. It is an easy read, but it can be intense, as well as light-hearted. It is a love story, with a thriller/suspense aspect to it.
The story begins with my protagonist, Marcy Jensen, an independent, stubborn young woman, who runs her own bakery and coffee business. Some may find her full of rage and behaving irrationally. If you’ve ever experienced this type of anger, you may relate to Marcy and her problems; if not, you may not understand her. If this is the case, try to picture a moment in your life when you were the angriest that you can remember, and multiply it times a hundred. Then you’ll have an idea of what this young woman is experiencing.
As the series continues, the reader learns more and more about Marcy’s life and why she behaves the way she does. Eventually, her love interests are introduced: Brad Preston, a hard-working financial genius who works in the banking industry, and Liam Brooks, a retired ex-military hero who understands Marcy’s anger better than anyone. Liam helps her deal with it by having her help him get revenge. Throw in their friends and family and this becomes a story of three people whose lives are confusing, intense, and passionate, but loving, warm, and lively as well.
Writing this story, I truly fell in love with my characters. At first, two of them seem quite flawed, while one seems perfect. It isn’t until we delve into their lives, that we realize they have more to their personalities. I try to make each novel as satisfying as possible while continuing the story to the next book.
This story is fiction, but there’s more realism to it than most may know. Hopefully, whether it touches the readers in a familiar way, or is completely out of their realm, I hope it takes them to another time and place and into others’ lives. I hope it brings an escape for as long as they are reading, and gives what it gave me…a satisfying ending and closure after spending many hours with my favorite people: Marcy, Liam, Brad, and their friends and family–even when they annoyed me, made me laugh, cry, or roll my eyes.
There are currently six novels in the series.
Blurb for The Past Returns:
Marcy and Brad’s marriage is back on track even with the major changes at play.
A new wedding is planned for New Year’s Eve. This wedding is a complete surprise to everyone, and an unexpected pregnancy may interfere.
The men in Marcy’s life become even closer, and a true bond is formed.
A Short, but Telling, Excerpt:
The tears are pouring down my cheeks. I can’t believe this. This man was in love with me from the moment he saw me, and he knew nothing about me.
I understand it because I seemed to feel a sense about him from the beginning. I let him in my home late at night, a perfect stranger, but I felt it was all right. It’s like my soul was speaking to me as well. Maybe I’m as crazy as he is.
What I don’t understand is if we were meant to be together, why did I meet Brad? Why am I in love with two men? I’m so confused. No wonder he doesn’t mind coming here and staying. This place is his sanctuary. It’s our place…a place where no one can take me away from him.

Evan stood waiting at the top of the stairs, a small smile hovering on his lips. “They’re great kids,” he whispered.
“Yeah, they are. And you’re going to be an awesome grandfather,” Meg added with a quiet chuckle. “You know, before Julie was born, I couldn’t picture you as a dad. But you were a natural with her right from the start. And right now, I honestly can’t picture a kid calling you ‘Grandpa.’ But I know you’ll be wonderful.”
His smile widened. “Thank you, Meg. That means a lot to me.”
She meant to walk past him and head downstairs. But she paused beside him, overcome with feeling for him, and lifted her hand to touch his face. She caressed her fingertips across the coarse day’s growth on his cheek, her thumb grazing his soft mouth. The dim light from the living room glittered in his beautiful eyes.
“You’re a wonderful man,” she murmured.
Evan’s lips parted slightly. His warm, intent gaze tangled with hers, while his hand covered hers and he pressed a gentle kiss to the tip of her thumb.
Awareness quivered from Meg’s hand straight to the pit of her stomach. Her heart slammed against her ribs with a blow that made her catch her breath.
She knew she ought to suppress her feelings. She should walk away and send him straight back to his hotel. But she stayed rooted to the floor, only letting her hand fall from his mouth as he bent to graze his lips against her temple.
“You’re wearing that rose scent again,” he whispered. “That fragrance haunts my dreams.”
Meg closed her eyes as desire for him spiraled through her in a heady rush. Tilting her face upward, she leaned into him and brushed her lips against his mouth.

What do you have out now?
Brace for Impact
The cool water flowing over Paix’s neck brought a shiver as well as joy. She scooped a handful and splashed her face. The water streamed down her cheeks, dripped off her chin and trickled onto her chest. She wanted to wallow in the stream’s delicious coolness. Let the water slip over her skin. The island was muggy. Trudging through the forest was hard work. She didn’t want to complain, but her feet ached from cuts and bruises. As a child, she’d run around the park in her bare feet, laughing with delight until her mother would insist she put her shoes on or they’d go home. At this moment, Paix missed her shoes.
She tugged on the hair tie, loosening the bun. She felt and heard it pop. Looking at the broken elastic, she sighed. Never fails. Don’t have an emergency hair tie and this one has to break. She knelt next to the stream and leaned forward, sloshing her hair in the water. It wasn’t as good as a washing from a professional hair stylist, but it did rinse off the salt and get some of the sand out of her hair. Standing, she flipped her hair back over her shoulders and let it hang down her back. Rivers of water streamed off each strand. She scooped a couple of handfuls of water and splashed it against her body. Her nipples contracted at the touch of the coolness. She slid her hands down her body, wiping away the water. Closing her eyes, she imagined Guy stroking her. His large, strong hands brushing softly against her flesh. His biteable lips kissing her neck.
Snapping herself from her thoughts, she bent low, cupped her hand and filled it with water. She raised her hand to her lip and sucked in the liquid.
“Oh, mon Dieu.” His voice broke the silence. “Now I know what heaven looks like.”
Paix bolted to upright, turned and groped for her blouse.
Brace for Impact
This is the release of the single story taken from the Crashing into Love box set.
What could be simpler than a routine plane trip from Toronto, Canada to Caracas, Venezuela for a rookie flight attendant and a sexy R.C.M.P. officer?
But Fate had other intentions.
After leaving a disastrous marriage, Paix Allcot begins a new career as a flight attendant. The romance of travel plus the desperate need to be on any other continent other than the one her ex is on seems like a dream job. For the first time, Paix is no longer a trainee and the passengers in economy class are under her care. Especially the handsome passenger seated in 36C.

Review – Daryl Devore’s book was fantastic also it was probably one of my favorites of the set. I was crying at the end thinking the worst but it turned out great.
New releases anytime soon? One coming up in the near future – an erotic contemporary – What Happens in Bangkok.

What is your greatest temptation:
In men: firefighters
In food: Chocolate
In clothes: Blue Jeans
What is your greatest weakness (example: buying shoes)? avoiding chocolate
If you could have any kind of car, what would it be? For my lifestyle it has to be a rugged SUV
Your dream home – mountains or ocean? Mountains
What inspired you to become a writer? An overactive imagination and long summers alone in a cabin with no phone or television while my husband was out fighting forest fires.
Do you have a daily writing routine? If so, please share. I don’t really have a daily writing routine. The mood has to strike me. I’ve never been one that can set aside a specific slot and force creativity.
What is your favorite book? Amazonia by James Rollins
What is your favorite movie? Sahara
Who is your favorite historical figure? Amelia Earhart
In your books, who is your favorite hero and please introduce him? That’s a tough one, but I’ll have to go with Deuce from Big Horn Storm. What woman can resist a tall handsome cowboy, who refuses to give up on the woman who stole his heart?
Who is your favorite heroine and please introduce her? It would have to be Devyn Nash from my Risky Research series. She was introduced in the first book, A Dose of Danger, but we start getting to know her better in A Taste of Tragedy. Devyn is a socially challenged, tough and gritty FBI agent, who isn’t all that good at playing by the rules, yet has a tender heart buried under layers of insecurity.
What do you have out now? My latest release is a Taste of Tragedy. Here’s a short blurb and excerpt.
Morgan Hunter sacrificed everything for her career. She had yet to encounter anything she wasn’t willing to do to succeed . . . until now. When she uncovers evidence that the healthy foods she’s been hired to promote may be dangerous, she must reevaluate her priorities. As questions mount and the body count rises, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of an organization that will stop at nothing to hide its secrets and protect its profits. With no one else to trust, Morgan is forced to seek help from the man she drove away, but whom she never stopped loving.
“Here, let me help you,” Morgan said as she draped Devyn’s arm around her shoulders.
Morgan tried to relieve as much weight as she could from Devyn as she helped her hobble to the waiting vehicle. Once Devyn was seated in the cramped back seat, Morgan dug out her emergency supply bag. She handed Devyn a blanket and a bottle of water. “I have a first aid kit, but I think you need something a little more than a bandage.”
“It’s just a few scratches. I’ll live.”
Morgan could see why Nick trusted Devyn with his back. As she looked at the battered and bruised woman, who had taken off into the desert in the middle of the night in bare feet to prevent a criminal from getting away, she had to admire her. Devyn had to be in extreme pain, yet not a complaint escaped her lips.
“Make room in the back,” Nick huffed.
Morgan looked up to see Nick trudging toward her with an inert Aaron slung over his shoulder. She raced to the tiny back cargo area and moved a few items around so Nick could squeeze the body in the vehicle.
“Is he dead?” Morgan whispered.
“Not quite, but we need to get him medical help A.S.A.P. The bullet didn’t hit any vital organs, but I’m not sure how much damage he suffered from the knock to the head”
Morgan watched as Nick set the man down in the vehicle, and then she joined Devyn in the back seat. Turning around and kneeling, she was able to lean over the seat and assess Aaron’s injuries. She folded up a handkerchief and placed it over Aaron’s gunshot wound and applied pressure. She wasn’t sure which was bleeding more, the bullet hole or the bump and cut to the head, but she had to try and slow the blood loss any way she could.
“That’s all we can do for now,” Nick said. “Just keep the pressure on the best you can.”
Morgan nodded as Nick secured the back and then got behind the wheel.
“You okay?” Nick asked as he turned to face Devyn.
“I’ve had better days, but sadly, I’ve had worse.”
New releases anytime soon? I’m working on my third novel in the Risky Research series titled, A Foundation of Fear. In this novel, we get to know the criminals and those trying to bring them to justice much more intimately, and learn that even the most ruthless assassin may have something to fear.

Hi James, tell us a little about yourself:
I’m a college lecturer from Manchester, England and in my free time enjoy writing speculative fiction, mostly science fiction, horror and a little sword and sorcery fantasy.
NOW FOR SOME QUESTIONS
What is your favorite book?
My favorite novel of all time is probably Dune (and the Dune series up to book 4, God Emperor of Dune) but I also have to mention William Hope Hodgson’s Adrift on the Haunted Seas, which is best short story collection I’ve ever read.
What is your favorite movie?
The City of Lost Children (La cité des enfants perdus), a dark, surreal fairy tale set in a steampunk SF world. It’s unique and the cinematography is hypnotic.
Who is your favorite historical figure?
Alfred the Great, a late ninth century king of Wessex who united and defended
his country against Viking invasions. He was never meant to be king, didn’t receive an education and his health was poor but through determination he overcame all these limitations, teaching himself to read and write in adulthood and becoming one of the most enlightened rulers of the time. To me, he is the perfect example of never giving up.
What is your greatest temptation:
In women: I’ve always really liked strong women (but not bossy, I hasten to add).
In food: Ice cream, especially chocolate mint.
In clothes: T-shirts, I have hundreds of them.
What is your greatest weakness (example: Mine is cars)?
DVD’s, I’m always buying them wherever I go.
If you could have any kind of car, what would it be?
I’d really like a Concorde Carver 742L, a type of minivan. For me it’s the perfect vehicle for driving holidays.
Your dream home – mountains or ocean? Mountains, definitely, but somewhere heavily forested.
ABOUT YOUR NEW NOVEL
What inspired you to become a writer? To write this book?
For me writing is pure escapism and the more I can create my own worlds, settings and characters the more I enjoy it. After the publication of my first SF novel, Dragon (which you were kind enough to feature in October 2014) I realized that I wanted to keep exploring this universe I’d created. So far I’ve written two more Dragon books, Dragon: Smuggler Tales and the most recent, Dragon: The Tower of Tamerlane. They’re not sequels exactly but rather fill in some of the missing periods in the first book.
Do you have a daily writing routine? Please share.
I tend to write for short periods throughout the day. I don’t stick to a regular time. I never think in terms of a daily word count either. What’s more important to me is keeping the ideas flowing and progressing the story I’m working on.
Tell us about your hero.
Sillow, the main protagonist in the Dragon stories, is a semi-comic character, a restless, neurotic and somewhat cowardly elf who constantly finds himself in dangerous situations. Originally I intended him to be a fantasy character but as my novel developed I decided it would work better as a science fiction with a fantasy flavor.
Is there a heroine in your novel? Tell us about her.
In the third book, Dragon: The Tower of Tamerlane, Sillow joins forces with Titania, a beautiful and fearless pirate queen, who is more than match for the cowardly elf.
What do you have out now?
To date I have six novels/ novellas out, all published by Class Act Books, which cover science fiction, horror and fantasy. I also have several short stories included in various anthologies. My most recent, longer work is Dragon: The Tower of Tamerlane, the third book in the Dragon series.
What else do you have planned, writing-wise?
I’ve almost finished a steampunk -horror- fantasy novella but there are so many ideas in it, it will take some reworking before I have a final draft ready.
I’ve also started writing another Dragon story but this time around I want to focus on Sillow’s character. There’s a lot of back story and some psychological issues I want to explore. My intention is to make it funnier but also much deeper than before.
Where can we find you? (Social media, web site, etc.)
Please give an excerpt from your novel. (cover, trailer, links, etc.)
After the death of the Tuolon Ambassador Lagua and the failure to bring the non-humanoid worlds into the Alliance, Sillow and Brok’s long partnership is finally at an end. Now a reluctant solo agent, Sillow is called upon to undertake his first mission, investigate the Tower, a high-tech prison complex along with the oligarch who runs it, a mysterious nobleman who calls himself Tamerlane.
Seeking evidence to prove Tamerlane is responsible for a series of terrorist attacks, Sillow quickly uncovers the sheer scale of his plans, a lethal military strike on all four humanoid home worlds.
Caught and imprisoned however, the Sylvan finds himself helpless to warn the Alliance of the coming danger.
All the while, something has been evolving, growing stronger inside the Tower, something intangible yet far more dangerous than Tamerlane ever could be, a being implacably opposed to all life in the galaxy.
And only Sillow has any chance of stopping it.
“Take a good look Drake,” the guard said as the craft closed on the gigantic, ornate structure resting between frozen mountains. “This is the end of the line for you. I hear Tamerlane wanted you personally.” The man grinned, splitting his ugly face in half. “Which ain’t good for your scrawny ass, believe me.”
The prisoner remained indifferent to the mocking tones or indeed the attempt to scare him, but then Darius Drake was a most unusual figure. Small and malformed, his owlish eyes nevertheless exuded an absolute, unshakable confidence, a haughty detachment that often unnerved those around him. The guard was one of them. It was partly for this reason he felt compelled to say something to the perfectly silent prisoner who’d got so deep under his skin.
Drake regarded the structure below. The closer they came, the more like some bizarre, oriental tower it appeared. After some moments he turned his watery gaze back to the guard. There was no aggression, no challenge, just a cool contempt.
The smirk crumbled from the other man’s lips. “You be taking those psycho eyes off me freak,” he warned, lifting his rifle.
Drake blinked impassively back, his wrinkled, wizened features unreadable.
Those damned eyes, the man thought. He couldn’t stand them anymore. He moved forward, stopping the rifle butt an inch or so in front of Drake’s face.
The little man didn’t flinch.
The guard’s knuckles whitened around the weapon and for a moment he looked as if he might use it. Then he sneered. “You ain’t worth it. Little cripple like you.” He shook his head, sitting back down. He made a point of avoiding the prisoner’s eyes.
A derisive snort made him whirl round, a large blue vein bulging in his neck. The guard stared at a powerfully built, buxom woman with long auburn curls that fell to her shoulders. She was a striking sight, and as he was aware, she’d caught him more than once ogling her during their half day’s journey to Tamerlane’s prison complex. One of her shoulders and arm was completely cybernetic yet the metal was so smooth, so perfectly formed it seemed almost like a bodily adornment rather than an artificial appendage. A thin silver line ran across one of her cheeks whilst above it the eye glowed with an artificial soft ruby light. That eye was mocking him.
“You got a problem?” he snarled.
The woman sneered. “Real tough guy, aren’t you Kerry? Bet all the ladies are real impressed by you.”
The guard’s nostrils flared. “Shut your bitch mouth.” Narrowed eyes swept over her. “Look at you, Titanya, the Pirate Queen. Least that’s what they call you, ain’t it?” He slid along his bench, moving towards her. “Well, you don’t look so noble to me. More like a slattern.” He placed a gloved hand to her throat. “Don’t look so damn tough, neither.”
Thank you James for being with us today and sharing some things about you and one of your books. I’ve sprinkled your covers randomly through the post.
